Why you should tighten those lug nuts before showing off

This has to be a really sick practical joke. And what's with the hand brake being engaged? Didn't want his car to roll away, eh?

I was wondering about that too... man, someone who would do that as a joke should be shot.
I noticed the front tire was quite bald. Perhaps he has his drifting tires and changed those for his street tires. He was excited and distracted and forgot to do up the nuts???

I'm no expert or anything, but I wouldn't guess that he forgot to tighten his lug nuts. He probably had the wrong lug nuts on. Bet he bought some fancy new racing lugs that weren't for his car.
But oh wow would that have sucked. I can't image how much stuff that broke.

Yah, apparently the guy who bought the tires was given the wrong lug nuts. It is funny, but it sucks at the same time. Still.. it is a mazda

Your girlfriend has good taste in cars. Twin Turbo Touring RX-7 FD3S was my dream car waaaay back in the day in highschool. Man that RX-7 is screwed, brake rotors are probably destroyed. Underbody is probably crushed in several places.

You too? Man, several of my lugnuts where either loose or missing a few days after I had new tires put on my car there. I layed into the manager some kind of fierce.

Here's my basic story.
-New tires all around
-retorqued the lugnuts around 300 km after installation (to 100 ft-lbs, but a torque wrench won't tell you if the torque is too high)
-rear wheel falls off going 120 km/h on hwy 3 at @11pm around christmas time (lugs sheared off & nuts still on other half) Good spark show though.
-spent christmas vacation fixing truck and finding identical replacement wheel
The wheel bounced over both oncoming lanes of traffic, to land in a farmers field nearly 1km away. It ran into irrigation pipe and had bent the middle in about 2m. It would have hit a farm house if it wasn't for the pipe.
Store didn't comment on it, nothing happened with it. Not worth the time or cash to further pursue it.

In my case some idiot decided to loosen the lug nuts on my rear passenger tire while I was inside the local hockey rink last January.
I get half way home and I hear a terrible racket coming from the rear of my vehicle. Stopped to check out the noise only to see my tire was wobbling with 2 lug nuts missing and the rest ready to come off. Luckily I caught it in time and was able to tighten the lug nuts and replace the 2 I lost.
In another story. About 7 years ago a buddy of mine took his Blazer to a tire shop to get his rear brakes done. Coming home on Edmonton Trail he heard a huge bang as his rear end hit the pavement. At the same time he saw his 2 rear tires pass him. Turned out the tire guy forgot to put on the lug nuts. Tire shop did repair all the damage.

Lug nuts can work themselves loose on one side of the car and tighten up on the other. I had an old 47 Dodge coupe that had reverse threads on one side to counteract this loosening. Lots of fun trying to change a tire before I figured it out.

I had that explanation given to me by the tire shop that retorqued my lug nuts. I was skeptical at the time as I have never had that experience before with any vehicles I have ever owned.

Ho ho hold the phone... Are you saying that they didn't pay for the repairs? Wowsers. I'dve had an aneurysm. Now that is something I'd have pursued. Did I say pursued? I meant SUED.

Nope, notta. A letter was given to them, they had an opportunity, but like most shops, they denied being at fault. Especially since I retorqued the nuts instead of them doing it.
