Default Can my old employer do this??

Alright, so I just picked up my final pay stub from my old employer and that was something that struck me as strange. First a little background information.

In mid-December I asked for a raise, I was told to be patient and then about a month ago it finally kicked in....so I got my minimal raise on two of my previous pay stubs. I then gave my two weeks notice, because I found a job in my field. So I worked out my remaining shifts and went to pick up my last pay stub...

So it seems I got paid my hourly rate BEFORE my raise for my last pay period. Seeing as I know nothing about labour laws in Alberta my question is can they change my hourly wage like that??

I'll have to find the link, but IIRC they have to give you a full pay period's notice that they are lowering your rate of pay.

The one and only time I took an employer to court, that was one of the issues that ended up winning on.

I don't think they can do that. I don't have any proof behind my thoughts, but I'm guessing you have a case and should bring it up with them.

Do you think they were trying to rip you off, or was it a mistake? If he's ripping you off then make sure all your former co-workers know what a great boss he is and what they can expect when they leave.

There's no way they can do that but is it gonna be worth the hassle of calling Employment Standards, or whoever, to get two weeks pay of the difference in salary?.I think i know where you were working Pagal and no offense but if i'm correct it wont be worth your time and crap like this happens all the time in that industry. Either way, it's not legal

I'm fairly sure they were trying to save money....but don't worry, everyone that works there knows the boss is a dick and are all planning to leave soon. I know it won't be worth the hassle as it's not alot of money, but for me it's just the principle of it. And the fact that I HATED my managment and this is exactly why...
I will e-mail the HR rep and see what he says.

Even though it may not be worth the hastle, it's also not worth the hastle for the manager to deal with a labour dispute either.

For that reason, he might do the right thing and pay you what you deserve if you make a small stink about it.

I think e-mailing the rep about it is that right play

Take it all the way and get what you deserve - this "don't bother, it's not worth the effort" is the reason that Albertans are so far behind the rest of the country and indeed the developed world in terms of employment standards. I've never seen such low job site conditions than right here in Calgary. People working overtime for straight pay, lack of running water, no privacy washrooms, it's terrible.
