Default Anyone watch "Most Haunted" or "TAPS"?

I think Most Haunted is on the Travel network, and Ghost Hunters: TAPS is on the Scifi channel. What's your opinion on the shows?

Well, I for one think Most Haunted is pretty entertaining, but mostly fabricated. I think that Derek Acora guy is just a fake. Seems the show "Ghost Hunters" employ more scrutiny in their evidence than "Most Haunted" do.

Here's what I think of each show

Most haunted: Definitely more entertaining than Ghost Hunters, but man, that Yvette lady needs to stop screaming and freaking out so much. I like how they would run away when they hear the slightest noise. Out of everyone, I think only Ciaran O'Keeffe, the parapsychologist, is the most level headed. Rumor has it, he's the one that exposed Derek Acora as a fake.

Ghost Hunters: Jason and Grant are the lead investigators in this show. They are famous for that abandon prison video of a supposed ghost materializing on camera that was all over the net not too long ago. The shows are entertaining, but not to the level of Most Haunted, simply because the investigators don't run away like idiots or scream when they hear someone farting. They do try their best to debunk the phenomena they encounter. However, I feel that they were more honest in their investigations early in the series. That seemed to have eroded quite a bit, since it seems to be more about proving ghosts exist more than what Jason originally intended it to be.

So for those of you that have watched it? What did you think? And try to make a bit of effort in your criticism or praises. A "I think they're stupid and it's all fake" is a little too generic.

I've seen Most Haunted and I find it entertaining. Personally, I don't buy into all that ghost/spirit stuff, but do enjoy watching these types of movies/shows/documentaries for entertainment value.

I remember one episode where some dude was in the basement with another woman and they would keep hearing a "tapping" sound in the dark. They'd ask the "thing" to identify itself by making the noise again, and after about 2 seconds, it did! LOL!

Nothing like furnace pipes and air ducts expanding and contracting due to temperature change, and creating a sound. I like how the so-called "thing" did not actually identify itself, it just made the same sound.

So many people are so credulous it is not even funny.

Yeah, I end up watching it a lot; Friday nights are the night when my wife gets complete control over the TV if we're home, so it's primarily What Not to Wear and Most Haunted. I couldn't stand Acora though, his lame possessions where he'd clutch his head and speak in a growling voice... the supposed mediums are always pretty questionable; of course they have probably heard about hauntings and histories of these houses, so coming up with names of people who used to live there and died tragically is never really convincing. It seemed to me that when they were in the US a while ago, the mediums tended to be a lot less effective, perhaps because they didn't know the stories as well. I don't believe the show is fake as such; if it was fake, they would probably fake better hauntings, rather than having some episodes where absolutely nothing happens. But maybe that's part of the reason why the show is effective: 99% of the phenomena that they encounter can be explained by wind or contraction of wood or pipes, and then once every few episodes there's something that goes completely beyond any of that, and usually it involves a crew member like a cameraman rather than one of the investigators. I'm a total skeptic when it comes to the paranormal, but I find Most Haunted pretty entertaining.

Yeah, Welles seems to be more toned down than the flashy Derek. He often gives his interpretations on the feelings he gets. If there is such a thing as a credible medium, he'd be the most likely candidate.

There is a thing to be said as to why David and Derek are never in the same room together.

I havent seen TAPS yet but I watch Most Haunted sometimes. I believe in ghosts but I agree that some of the stuff Most Haunted does is done to make the shows more interesting and isnt actually paranormal.

Another show I like is called Dead Famous where they go and investigate places where ghosts of famous people are suppose to haunt. My favorite was when they went to Alcatraz and the psychic they had sat in the cell in Cell Block D that's suppose to be haunted by a voilent ghost and talked to a ghost using EVP and was threatened by the ghost. It was pretty freaky but it could have been faked too since you dont really know if the audio was tampered with or not after recording it.

My wife is obsessed with the show, so I've seen pretty much every episode.

There are a few shows that have them sitting at the same table during a seance, but they usually dont work together.

Derek seems like he is full of crap, especially when he starts acting like he is possessed and starts yelling. David rarely gets overcome and often talks about the spirits trying to use his energy and how he has to protect the other cast members... not only that, he is frightenly accurate with names, dates and specific events.

LOL, yeah Derek seems to get "possessed" a lot. Of course, a lot of people watch the show because of his antics. I think even Yvette is getting fed up with his crazy possessions.

Yeah, I heard about Dead Famous. Haven't watched it yet. TAPS (the show is actually called "Ghost Hunters") is the group that does the investigations. I think TAPS stand for The Atlantic Paramornal Society or something similar. I think the show is 1/3 paranormal investigation 1/3 drama between the investigators, and 1/3 comedy.
