As someone who has lost 2 cats to cars, (and had a dog that was hit and lived), it's really sad. I doubt that person did it on purpose though, so I don't know where this person gets off trying to lay a guilt trip. It's their own fault for letting their dog loose. Leashes are a good thing.

Pretty sad stuff.

Hate to be a prick, but that book I'm reading right now and mentioned in the "What ya reading?" thread has dozens of stories 10 times more brutal than anything else I've read. Pretty heartwrenching stuff also and hard to get out of your head. Not criticizing anyone, don't get defensive. Most of us here are compassionate people, just saying, don't forget about the animals out there suffering that are not cats and dogs.

By the way, what happened to our Didsbury thread?

I think it might have something to do with the fact that the guy or girl hit the dog and then left, didn't stop to help or anything. It's pretty cold to hit the dog and leave it to suffer.

I have had a dog get hit by a car as well, she survived and the guy that hit her stopped, was crying, offering as much help as he could. He came by for several weeks to see how she was healing after surgery.

Although its probably hard to know the full circumstances, we don't know how big the dog was, or what colour it was. It could have been a small white or brown dog that was mistaken for a rabbit or something (stretching, i know), and hence why the person didn't stop. Or, they just didn't care, which makes them a pretty crappy person.

Sad though, for sure.

Pretty sad letter. I grew up with 2 dogs and know full well the pains of losing a beloved pet. Now where the hell is the tissue box!

Yeah I agree, the owners really are 100% to blame in my opinion for letting their pets out on their own to wander the neighborhood.

I've had cats all my life, I've had two cats who were outdoor cats, one was coyote lunch, the other likely ended up on memorial drive (My mom lived in Sunnyside)

But since then all of my cats have been 100% indoor until our current oldest cat is ok to go out in our fenced yard and walk around. I just ring the doorbell and he runs back in and he knows he's too old to have me chasing him.

My under 1 year old (Miikka) is pretty good but I keep my eye on him 100% of the time.

I hate to say it, but I don't know if I would stop either. There are too many psychos out who wouldn't act rationally. The last thing I would need would be to have my face smashed in because I ran over some biker's rangy fricken' pit bull or poodle.

Yeah, as an owner... i'd almost prefer not to see the person who injured my pet.

It happens, I don't need to deal with someone else... i'm not even sure you can sue for vet bills...

It's people with attitudes like yours that make me weep for humanity. You have the right to your opinion but this makes me sick.

Yeah, but leaving the scene was the right thing to do for the person? At the very least put in an annonymous phone call to the Police or something. I do everything I can to keep my dogs in my yard and always have them on a leash unless I'm in an off leash area. But gates break open and things like that and pets can get loose. And no I don't think my dog's are replacable like that, I'm pretty attached to them.

You think that's bad...
Look up the numerous times in these forums where people have said the same about humans.
