Default Crapping on Posters

I was the one who started the "Replace Playfair" thread on Friday and nearly got lynched for doing it. I acknowledged there was little chance this was going to happen but I thought the question merited debate. With the worst road record in the NHL and no signes things are going to improve its worth the discussion. All possible solutions need to be considered.

Tonight I see Erik Estrada raised the same issue, suggesting that Sutter step back behind the bench now before its too late. Some of the replies to his thread included:

- Here we go again, how many threads are we going to have dedicated to this crap.
- The idea is garbage.
- What a joke.
- Pile of rubbish.
- What an idiot for suggesting this.

If you disagree fine. Say so and be constructive. I have not been a frequent poster on this site in the past and don't think I will bother given the personal attacks you risk for starting unpopular threads or posting opinons that are in the minority. And by the way, just because you don't post often does not mean your opinions count less or have less merit.

I would agree with the fact that many people are passionate about their opinions, but it's a two way street.

Also, we see a lot of threads on the same topic, especially after a loss, and a bad one at that. It gets old and some people snap at others, especially if they have a low post count or are not known on this board. Is it the right way to respond? Probably not, but hey, this is a public forum of opinion, and everybody has one of those, right? What can we do about it?

I would just encourage you not to take it personally and keep posting on here whenever you need to say whatever is on your mind. I would imagine that this is the proper "forum" for that. If I'm wrong, I'm sure one of the moderators will correct me.

I don't think those responses were wrong (other then calling someone an idiot, that was over the top).

Anyways, I think people get cranky because these threads about firing the coach seem to come up after every loss and people are getting tired of it. I don't think it has to do anything with who put them up. I think if it was someone who had hardly any posts or alot of posts, etc....the reaction would be the same.

It's "FIRE PLAYFAIR" after every loss.

Anyways, that's an Oilers fan's take on it.

PS......Being an Oiler's fan it's amusing though what some people's reactions are. I just stay out of those threads alltogether though as I realize it is a Flames board.

The behaviour on this site in recent days is quite frankly appalling There is a lack of respect for other posters, and a ton of name calling go on.

So what to do about it
- Respect others opinions
- Knock off the name calling
- If you find a post offensive, report it, don't complain about it on the board. Follow the process that's beeen put in place.
- Cut out use of phrases such as "rose colored glsses", and "bandwagonner"
- Post count matters squat. Quality not quantity. And again both sides here are at fault. Those that discount a posters opinions because of low post count, and those that claim that there is some sort of preferential treatment paid to those with higher post counts. Again - post count should not matter, and doesn't matter to those running this site.
- Before you start at topic ask yourself if another thread is already open on the subject, or has it been beaten to death in the previous days. Are you bringing a fresh perspective that warrants a new thread? In short- is it thread-worthy?
- If you are stating a topic with a controversial opinion be prepared to stand in there and face a lot of opposition to it. If you can't take the heat, or are going to take it personal, then you are better served not posting the original topic.

And finally leave the criticism of the board as a whole off the discussion forum. If you have concerns PM a mod, email us, or put your question in the Help/Suggestions forum (where this is being moved to now).

Hey man, don't take it personally. People are cranky on every message board when someone disagrees with someone else. I have to tell you though, I think you're probably a minority in your opinion on Playfair.

PS: I'm only saying this because its true, i think this thread should be in "General Discussion", but I feel like a jerk for saying it in a thread that is already about being shafted....

Whoa, i spoke too soon.

I 100% agree that name calling is pretty stupid, although I've (mistakenly) reduced myself to it once or twice in a heated argument. The best thing to do is focus on the debate, not on who's in it.

Thumbs up Well said

Perhaps more people should try and say something, rather than just critize!
