Buckwheat Zydeco
I went to this concert up here last night. It was awesome.
Zydeco is a type of creole, louisiana bluesey type of music and gets your toes tapping and all that. Buckwheat Zydeco is a band that is probably the most famous within the genre. They've been around forever.
It's the first concert I've been in about 10 years where the band literally had people dancing up and down the aisles. Buckwheat (the band leader) has been doing this so long he had the entire crowd singing along from about song #2 of the evening.
The other neat part of this was many of the songs came out like a jam session amongst the band. They would play the chorus, the intro, and then give each of the band members (except the guy playing the washboard or the drummer) a lengthy solo - in every song. It was actually wicked to see. The one guitar player had to be in his late 50's or early 60s. Blues don't get any better than that.
It was so refreshing to see and makes a lot of the commercial acts we see coming through town pale in comparison.
If you get the chance to check him out, I highly recommend it.
(PS, the previous concert that had people dancing in the aisles was the Dixie Chicks at the Jack Singer in about 1997).
