I swear to god, the post game interview with Dan Spence was just about the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life. He actually got sick on the ice, rushing to the bench. He threw up on the ice, ran straight to the tunnel, threw up again in the hallway, then turned around, threw his goalie mask back on and went right back out there. So in the post game, they asked for basically a play by play of what happened, and Dan gave a play by play.
"I hope you washed out your mask before going back out there."
"I, uh, never had time. I had to wear it until the end of the period."
"I'll bet you never threw up in front of 19,000 people before."
On the ice, the game was never in doubt, as Saskatoon is playing their third in three nights, and second game in less than 14 hours. Covington scored one of the goals of the year however. Intercepted a breakout pass while on the pk, put the puck through the legs of the defenseman, then deked Saskatoon's goalie right out of his pads.
As far as the crowd goes, it is the largest ever, only 86 people shy of the WHL record of 19,103. Calgary and Portland are the only two teams in the top 15 all time largest crowds. I believe it is also the third highest in CHL history as well, behind Ottawa's 20,000 last year.
