swear filter?
Is it supposed to be simply deleting words? It really screws up the tone and wording of posts when half of words get blanked entirely, rather than starred out.
ie: p-i-s-s-e-s turning into "es" simply breaks the sentence, and works to make the poster look like an idiot.

Thanks!
I gather then that the simple deletion of bad words is intentional then. That has some interesting possibilities.

Here....I think this is what he means...
ing...
I did type the whole F word...with the ing on the end....and it seems to delete part of it.

Yeah, I know what he meant. Im sick of people constantly swearing around here. So now people can type "I think the refs are ing heads" and feel better (I guess, not sure why people feel the need to add garbage like that) and the rest of us dont have to read it.

Was wondering that too. My word kept getting deleted when i previewed my post so i wrote it with symbols and got some sort of warning... woops guess I should just write hole instead.

There are always options to get the same message across without swearing. I know sometimes we get a little carried away with how this forum seems to have a more casual feel to it than most others. But that doesn't mean we can't keep the language civil.

Like I said, Im sick of seeing "**** this ****ing bull**** *** you *** lip mother****er." And there is just too much of it to constantly warn people about it. Look in the Guidelines - Keep your posts PG. So now it isnt an issue and we can identify people going around the filter much easier (as ZDogg found out).

Here's a great idea:
F bomb = Friggin
S bomb = crap
A bomb = butt
etc. Take that extra .03 seconds and think of a cleaner word. If possible, just avoid all these words all together. Definately don't want to see garbage like "motherfrigger!"
And definately, p-i-s-s doesn't need to be in there haha.

No biggy, just curious. I see no need to swear on this board, so I understand your frustration.

Well I for one want to brown nose to the mods and think this is a good idea. I find sometimes people just drop a swear, well because they can....or they think that its cool. I'll probably get the lighten up response, but in theory you could have anywhere from a 8 - 12 year old on here or something, and the less they hear that the better (yes I know they probably no more swears etc than us, but still).

**** this! Crisis averted
all people will do is type using actual stars... I don't think you can avoid people doing this, I post on larger boards that don't have the ability to edit out swears from posts and it is against the rules to swear. But people just use the stars to censor their post.
I don't think you'll be able to stop people from doing this, people will still get pissed off and post using the stars.

I think that may be the point though. If I'm going to have to type out stars anyways, I may just come up with a better word that fits just as well and isn't a swear.

It will separate those with little fewer words in their vocabular repetoire from those who have a stronger grasp of the english language and can get their point across without swearing and looking like an idiot. I've never understood why people need to swear (though I've let my temper get the better of me at times). In my opinion people swear regularily just look dumb.

Is their anyway to have it so I could change my preferences and have the board uncensor the swearing? I don't have a problem with swearing so if I could see it when I was logged in it wouldn't bother me.

Unfortunately that's not a feature that the forum software has, though that would be something interesting to suggest to them.
