Everybody should watch Craig Ferguson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bbaRyDLMvA
I can honestly say I've never seen someone like this on television who can be so funny yet absolutely serious and eloquentely moving on certain subjects. He almost won an Emmy because he decided to give an eulogy to his father instead of his usual comic monologue once. His 9/11 monologue was fantastic also.
For me, this guy blows every other late-night host out of the water. It's an amazing amount of honesty without pretentiousnous and an utterly intentional aversion to any sort of preachyness whatsoever.
Even if you catch him on normal nights, his monologue is amazing compared to the others who just string random jokes together. His monologue is always about 12-15 minutes long and absolutely continuous. It's amazing what a storyteller he is.

I really liked Ferguson and did the first time I saw him in his "audition spots" when the CBS was trying all the candidates to replace Kilborn out. I really think he's unde-rated and for all the reasons you mention.
His comments about Anna Nicole Smith are bang on. Since when is someone, anyone passing away funny.

Thanks for sharing that.
I watch Craig on the occasion when I am able to stay up that late.
He's very funny and it helps that he's from Scotland...I love the accent.
Once had a Chemistry professor from Scotland. I went to class every day because of his accent and his penchant for infusing his lecture with comedy.

The problem is we start to view these people as cartoon characters, not as real people. Part of it is due to the media, but some of these people do it to themselves.
If Anna Nicole Smith contributed things more worthy of respect during her life, people wouldn't be laughing, they would be mourning. Im not saying its not sad she died, but her life was viewed as a joke because it kind of was. She was most famous for being a gold digger. That is the legacy she left behind.

Craig is awesome, plain and simple.
I'm not often up that late so i don't get to see him on TV a lot but i do make a mental note of watching his clips on YouTube, His accent is what originally got my attention and the fact that i remembered him from the Drew Carey show(in witch his role was not overly huge , but the second to minutes he was on he always managed to deliver his lines almost perfectly).
Thou lately i have found a new respect for him and his routine , especially after seeing that video , he unlike most late night hosts See's the people and celebrities
(i separate people from celebrities because celebrities live there life's in the lens of a camera , while un-famous/normal people have a lot more privacy, thus making it harder for celebrities to dodge the occasional/consistent shot at them ) -holy cow batman that was a long a utterly useless explanation
Moving on.... as i said (was trying to say) he See's the celebrities and people as actual living beings instead of a fictional character/ cartoon who are meant to be made fun of and making fun of witch should or could not have an affect on such character/cartoon.
His comedy meets my two major criteria for me 1. It make me laugh 2. it's tasteful he doesn't come on using profanity excessively in order to appear funny , it's well thought out a timed.
So long explanation short , i find him funny and i would like to meet him before any other late night host i know of.

I don't watch his show much, either, but when I have I've always been impressed. Thanks for the link to that video - awesome stuff.
It got me searching on youtube, and here's one I couldn't help laughing out loud over:

Thanks for posting that. The more honest something like that is, the more powerful it is. That was very powerful.

What an amazing speech, and good for him. In a lot of ways he's right about Spears, she is 25 she has two kids, she's been in the media spotlight for near a decade, and her mother dosen't seem to be someone that she can lean on to act as a parent.
It got to me when Ferguson said she's a baby, not a babe, but a baby.
Its funny but I'm sure that a lot of you can look back on parts of your life where maybe drinking was becoming a problem, or you were bordering on it becoming more then recreation.
I remember when I left the military which is basically the worlds cheapest and most encouraged drinking establishment. Got a job at a major electronic retailer and was transfered to thier new store in Regina. I was working 16 hour days, and spending another 4 or 5 hours each night in a bar because I was still young, and alone, and bored and stressed out, and was making way too much money too easily. Eventually it got to the point where I couldn't sleep without having several shots before bed. I can't tell you how many bar fights that I got into, and how many times I woke up in the morning smelling like liquor and having a fresh shiner.
I may talk about going to the bar, and I do now and again, but I'm terrified for the most part of booze, so I either change to water after one beer, or if I really feel like getting hammered, I go home.
So I do have a certain sympathy for people like Spears and Smith and other celebrities who's lives spiral out of control, because I think human nature allows that spiral to happen pretty easily, and I think that a small part of our brain really counteracts our survival instinct and wants to experience death first hand because of curiosity, and wants to do things that are inherantly bad for us. We all have that small area, and at some point we'll give it that momentary victory or moment, and its something that we tend to pay for in spades.
Anyways and wow, this is the rambling of someone who's up way too late.
But a great video.

Really? The first time I watched his show I thought it was absolutely hilarious, but after about the fifth time and realizing his show consists of the same crap every show such as him jumping around like a moron, playing with his hair and Lone Ranger clips I got tired of that show quickly, now it's my least favorite to watch. But to each their own I guess.

As much as I enjoy Craig as the host of the late late show, he was actually still on the Drew Carey show during this event. Back in 2001 it was still Craig Kilborn who was the host.

It was a 9/11 anniversary episode. Because I remember it vividly. He had a very powerful analogy about a giant flag on the studio set of Drew Carey almost falling down due to the wind but it stayed up, etc.
