Fly/Drive in fishing camps?
Hey guys, its getting to that time of year where Fishing trips are getting planned, or are already planned. I was just wondering how many anglers we have here at CP and where your fav place to fish is?
My buddies and I are just getting into the annual fishing trip, we've gone three years in a row to Thompson Camps on Otter Lake. A lot of people here have probably flown out of that area, Missinipe, something we plan to do this year. I really like Otter because it is so big you can go anywhere, but the fish are very small, we want to try something bigger.
Could anyone recommend an affordable fly in fishing camp that they have themselves experienced? I have been googling a lot but most of the ones I come across are around the 2-3k American price, thats a bit more than we want to spend. We tend to drink as much as we fish so we'd like to keep it around the $1500 Canadian mark if at all possible. Fully catered etc.. isn't needed, or wanted, we like to cook our own meals on our own time. We aren't a big fan of guided fishing tours either, so these pricy lodges don't really appeal to us even if we wanted to sped that much.
Also I should mention it doesn't HAVE to be fly in, but it seems like most of the good fishing spots are.

Are you a flyfisher, partial to trout, rivers and streams?
Or, do you like lakes, with walleye, pike or bass?
Coastal? Salmon?
How about a helicopter safari to an alpine lake for Golden Trout?

Sorry should been more specific, we like lakes, walleye. Pike are pretty much everywhere in SK, don't mind catching the big ones, hate the little guys.
We have fished for Lake Trout before up at Cold Lake but never caught the buggers. They weren't biting that day.
That fly fishing trip does look unreal though.

Mikasew Sports Fishing out of Fort Macmurray. Variety of lakes up for grabs that you get flown into. You have the lake all to yourself during your stay. Decent little cabins and you are in the middle of freakin nowhere. 2 of my buddies and I have gone the past 3 yrs straight and have loved every minute of it. All the lakes are dominantly Pike but all have a very good amount of Trout up for grabs as well as Walleye or Perch, just a little harder to come by. Not sure what the exact price is as we got a bit of a deal but it should be within your price range.
First year we went, we all caught almost 100 fish each (and that was without any REAL effort as we did some drinking as well), next year was about the same but the last year we didn't do so well. If you do wind up booking through that company, don't go to Burstal Lake, that was the last one we went to and by far our least favourite. Cornswall and Potts lake were the other 2 lakes we went to and I would have a tough time deciding which one I would want to go to again more.
Hope that helps a tad, it's really the only company we have ever done something like that through.

Here is a great little place I visted in Chile in 1994:
http://www.hosteriariopenitente.com/
The clear water of Rio Penitente , flowing through the farm, offers excellent trout fishing, hiking and horse riding provide healthy exercise under the windswept skies. At the end of the day you are ready for an "asado" of lamb grown at the farm and fine Chilean wine, served by the friendly staff.
Watch out for the friendly staff though - one male staff member was trying to seduce the men in our group. I guess it gets real lonely in Patagonia.

Narrow Hills Provincial Park is amazing, and if the fishing isn't any good, you can just head further down the Hanson Lake Road to Deschambeault, or Limestone, or Jan.

I really enjoyed my time up at Namur Lake Lodge, which is a trophy lake you fly into North of Ft. Mac.
Big Lake trout along with Pike and pickeral. Also for a change and some fun, bring some light gear to hit these creeks at the far end of the lake that have Arctic Greyling in them ~2lbs.
you

Very cool, we are going through these guys as well, booked from Aug 26 - Sept 3.
Thanks for the info, it's good to hear that there have been some good experiences with Mikisew.

Hrmm that Mikisew looks to be about what we want. 4 or 5 days on for about a reasonable price. I'd rather fly out of LA but we have a few buddies working up at Fort Mac so this would work out for them. Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it.
