Telus Mobile TV- Anybody have it?
Yep, now that I have a cell phone from this century, I'm looking at adding some of the goodies. Has anybody used the mobile TV services; from Telus or anywhere else? Any feedback on it?
And in case anybody is curious what channels are available, I had Telus email me the link to the list (because it isn't on Telus' site.) http://www.mobitv.com/channels/channelstv.php?i=telus

I used to have it, just found that I didn't watch it enough, I'd rather read. I especially liked the comedy channel. But really, when do you have time to sit and stare at your phone? It also drains the battery a fair bit...
The mobile radio though, I loved. But when you decide to cancel it, let me know so I can help you and we'll make sure you don't get billed again!

I had it as well when I bought my "Chocolate phone(the phone is awesome) and I subscribed for the first month, but I never watched it, like barely ever. I suppose if you bus to work or school, you could plug in the headphones and watch TV, but even then, its hard paying attention to something when your screen is only 1.5 inches wide. I don't like it nor do I reccomend buying it.

I don't have it, and I guess FireFly said it best, but IMO, all these nice mobile innovations are coming out, but at the end of the day, it's still the crapass batteries in all these devices that work no more than 4 hours. Hopefully these innovators can find a way to make better batteries in the future.

Yeah, my thinking was that now that I'm stuck on the bus for an hour each way every day, it might give me something to do.
How badly does it drain the battery? Right now using the MP3 player on my phone I'm only charging it every 5 days or so. I don't use the phone a whole lot for voice because of all the call forwarding I do.

You'll probably charge it every two or three days then. Try it for a month, tv is easily cancelled. As I said, I really enjoyed it for a while, but then I started reading on the bus...

I agree, the mobile XM radio is great, and doesn't drain the battery too badly. The TV is neat, but as others have said, it's not often you are out and about and actually have time to sit and watch it. I'd be far more inclined to use it if it was billed as cell minutes instead of the flat $15 per month, which is just expensive enough to make me go "hmmm...do I really need this"...

I tried it for a month. The only reason I'd need it was to watch flames games when i was out and about, but Telus (being the genius' they are) wouldn't think thats important. Treehouse on the other hand...essential.

Oh, I've told them. I think it has more to do with liscencing restrictions... But by all means, call Telus and tell them that you'd like to send through feedback that being able to watch hockey games is important. Unless more people put that feedback in, it's not going to happen.

Of course, it would have nothing to do that ROGERS Sportsnet is showing the game, right?

Well they don't even have highlights on any of the channels... That's what I was looking for mostly.

Hey Firefly, I've heard Rogers is coming out with the 3G system in a couple months? Is that correct (I know you're with Telus)? And what's the word on the Telus street when it comes to the iPhone and the limitations on Telus' network?

Well, I went to add it, and it didn't work. Went through 3 levels of tech support and they couldn't figure it out. I can get the free channel, but when I accept the fee for the $15/month channels it tells me it wouldn't go through.
Waiting for a call back from them now............

Badly. The screen's backlight is constantly on, and the processor in the phone is working hard trying to decompress the video data. It kills it about as bad as playing a game does.
At least with the MP3 player, the screen's off and it's not that processor-intense.

No idea, and no idea. Rumour is that there will be CDMA version of the iPhone, but you're looking at a year and half away at least.

It is unlikly that a CDMA iPhone will ship before Apple's US agreement with Cingular expires or shortly before.

Well, here's the story.
I went to buy it last week. But the purchase would not go through on my phone. I called in, spent 1/2 an hour with tech support. They said they would escalate it and I should hear back in the next day or two.
Today, after still not hearing anything called back. Spent another 1/2 hour with tech support, and then finally get the answer that "this is a known issue, and we currently have no resolution." Apparently I am supposed to be happy with that answer.
I am now waiting to hear back from a supervisor regarding their false advertising practices. I had to explain why I wasn't satisfied that the phone I bought and spent extra money on to get TV and games; won't play TV and games.

Why did you even bother? You can't get porn from Telus anymore.
