Wanting to buy a new TV
So it is time for me to buy a new tv. Can someone please help me a few things. First,I am lookin at spending around $2000, can someone pls point me in the right direction on towards what brand would you recommend? Of course, I am going with HD but would you go with Plasma or LCD. For the best deal, where would you buy from?
Thanks for your help

Do they even sell 53" 4:3 anymore?............I have not seen a 4:3 look even half decent in HD.

That 2000 dollar TV is going to be more like 2400 when you add GST and a stand, even more if you add a warranty. Are you willing to spend 2000 max on everything, or just for the TV?

Probably not..they were clearing them out 3 years ago.
But this looks fantastic in HD. Put your nose to the screen, and no pixelation you see on many LCD's or any ghosting of images. Of course, it has the bars above and below, so the screen in HD (wide screen) mode is only about 42".

I ordered my new 37" Sharp Aquas, and it should be here this week. Sharp Aquas is the way to go IMO.

Third. Great TV.
If you are going 40" or bigger, plasma is the way to go. If you search for my name and plasma, you'll many posts showing why. I'm not biased either, because I have an LCD.

If you already have an audio system, and dont have any need for the speakers on the TH42PX60 above, consider the 'industrial' version. Same TV, but without the speakers. It doesnt have a TV tuner, so you'll need an external tuner, like a PVR. If you have more than on component that uses the same connection (HDMI, Component, S-Video, etc) you'll need an audio-video receiver that can switch those inputs. Also, the trim around the outside is all black instead of some silver. The industrial version also allows you to set more settings.
You can get it at Complete-IT, for $1777, including a wall mount.

Or you can get it at AVDeals, for $1776, including shipping.

I've bought items from both, and have had no problems.
For $2650, you can get into the 50" version.

This TV is at Soundsaround for 1898 and I believe you get a free DVD recorder when you purchase it. I just purchased it and price matched it at future shop you could borrow my receipt if you want it at that price, great tv for the price. I was debating between the Panasonic one mention above but close the Samsung.

The Panasonic TH42PX6U is going on sale at Costco for $1700 on Feb 26th. There are some slight disadvantages of the 6U when compared to the 60, but they may not matter to you.
This thread, from RFD, covers it all for you.

I second that, the industrial Panasonic is fantastic and complete-it was a great online retailer. Also, you may need to buy a blade (cartidge) if you want HDMI input (at least on mine you did, maybe the new ones have HDMI). Overall, a great system and a stellar value!

Wow, that's cheap. We got the PX60 in April and it was priced at $3999. I got it for $3400 and thought that was a great deal. Now it's $2000 and I can't believe how fast the price dropped in half.
$1700 is an amazing deal.

Do some research before you buy. What are you using the TV for? I went to the store thinking Plasma. But was told that if you watch sports, or play video games, that Plasma is not the best way to go. Projection is what most salesman, and the internet recommended for watching sports. I ended up getting a 50" Samsung DLP 1080p. Happy with it so far.

My brother got a 27 inch LCD Hi definition TV for under $2000 I believe and hasn't had any complaints about it. If I remember correctly it is a Sharp, and they got it at Best Buy.
