Wow, we must not have that many great Canadians if Don Cherry is on the list.

I was flipping through it last night and freakin' Shania Twain was top 20!?? Sure she has a nice voice and a great rack, but still that is just an insult to Canada to consider her top 20 in our nations history. She bloody left the country. grrrr... but great rack.
I am just glad the doctor who invented basketball wasn't there.
What David Suzuki made the top 10. YUCK!

Is there any way in the world Trudeau won't win a contest started by the CBC?
I would have voted for Terry Fox.

Don Cherry? WTF??
Banting & Fox are good on the top 10.
Pearson and Trudeau are good on that list as politicians. (Yes, there is at least one westerner who liked Trudeau! While his policies weren't everyone's favourites, I think he did a lot for Canada).
And Avril Lavigne actually got votes?

Most of the top ten did something desrving of getting recognition. Cherry is the only one I have a big problem with. And didn't Bell steal his invention from someone else?

I have a big problem with Cherry being there. It's shameful that someone who spouts constant intolerant garbage out of his mouth every week is considered by voters to be one of the 10 greatest Canadians.

You could say the same thing about Bell. Heck, I don't even think he was born in Canada. He did research in Canada because he could get funding here, and then he took it to the States.

I'm just wondering why you feel that way. I'm not sure he deserves top 10 (maybe), but I think he is worthy of consideration.

Alexander Graham Bell was so barely a Canadian. He wasn't born in Canada, and didn't live there in his adult life and made his inventions in the US. Not sure why we hold on to the theory that we invented the telephone.

Cherry clearly should not be there. Suzuki is borderline, ditto Bell
not sure who I would put in their places
William Osler for sure
Neil Young? ok maybe not
James Naismith? (even though I don't care for basketball)
William freakin' Shatner!

Bell had ALOT of inventions
telephone is most notable
hydrofoil (reference on the Simpsons in the Kamp Krusty episode)
he worked alot with speach, and making working models of mouths with tounges that could actually talk if you knew how to use them
airplane, while the Wright Brothers flew their at Kitty Hawk about a month before hand, he was doing the same thing at the same time, first flight in the British Commonwealth
he did work with kytes, but what exactly I don't remember......
it's been a LONG while since I've been in the Alexander Graham Bell Museum

acutally Bell did live here in his adult life (at atleast part of it), he lived 40 minutes from my home town, as well he's buried there. Lived right on the Bras d'Or Lakes, quite possibly the most beautiful spot in earth

I thought Arthur Currie should have made top 10.
Ah well a list like this is what happens when idiots like the average Canadian vote.
Fox or Trudeau should get it in my opinion.
Fox basically sums up what Canadians feel about themselves.

Interesting debate, I guess.
I wouldnt get too uptight on the selections though. When I saw the advertisements for this show I had to laugh when I saw that they had less than 200,000 votes for this show.
Basically you could have had Red Deer and Lethbridge decide who they think are the "Greatest Canadian".
Nothing more than a trivial side show IMO. But if it distracts you from the lockout, great.

Personally I think Trudeau was great, but you couldn't chose someone who's so nationally divisive.
Pearson would be a great choice. Really defined some of the best parts of Canada's image--he created the concept of peace-keeping forces, and really made Canada a respected voice in international politics, advocating pragmatism and sound judgement--an image that has faded in recent years, but I think his policies, perspectives and achievements perfectly summarize what I think most Canadians would like to believe about our national identity.

whaaa. your kidding right? That is just sick. I can think of people around the neighborhood that represent Canada in a much better light than her.
Does anyone have a list of the top whatever number they did, instead of just the top 10.
