I don't think Stewart handled himself the best, but that Tucker Carlson guy is enough to drive anyone nuts.
Little Tucker with his little bow-tie. :wwf:

Stewart some good points but I think he failed to make one of them. He was saying "all you ever do is bicker" and then he proceeded to bicker.
He was right though -- they never really do "hold feet to the fire". I watch that show fairly often and it's the same thing every day, the same back and forth, no matter who is on. "Your guy sucks at this" countered with "oh yeah well your guy sucks at that".
They don't debate -- they shake their head, they act all exasperated, they shout each other down then it's all smiles and "see you tomorrow".
It's on @2:30 local time in case anyone wants to hear what gets said about it. I've never seen Crossfire get this much play, so they'll be milking it.

The problem with Crossfire, and shows like it, is the pursuit of talking points. That's what they want to do. Get people to focus on the talking points and make talking points become fact rather than the actual events or issues. David Brock's "The Republican Noise Machine" is a great book that cuts right to the bone of how media is manipulated into participating in the manufacture of news. For anyone (Transplant99 immediately jumps to mind) who does not believe that the government controls what we think should read this book. It will forever make you question what you see, read and hear from the mainstream media.

I think the bow-tie thing was an implication that it was theater, not serious news. The bow-tie is part of a costume Carlson wears in order to look conservative.

Crossfire is entertainment - and bad entertainment at that - and has little to do with the news you hear on a nightly basis.
In any event, as one can plainly see from the comments by Steve Begala in the CNN Transcript, he was using Democrat talking points and was given equal weight. And they had a plainly Democrat favouring Jon Stewart on the show.
"The Republican Noise Machine" by David Brock
Is there any particular reason that every book you present here comes from the far left side of the spectrum?
Has someone got control of your head there bub?
Why not offer us the counter-argument for balance, an expose of how the liberal media is controlled in America?:
Think the media are biased? CONSERVATIVES HAVE BEEN crying foul for years, but now a veteran CBS reporter has come forward to expose how liberal bias pervades the mainstream media. Even if you've suspected your nightly news is slanted to the left, it's far worse than you think. Breaking ranks and naming names, Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist Bernard Goldberg reveals a corporate news culture in which the close-mindedness is breathtaking, journalistic integrity has been pawned to liberal opinion, and "entertainment" trumps hard news every time. In his three decades at CBS, Goldberg repeatedly voiced his concerns to network executives about the often one-sided nature of the news coverage. But no one listened to his complaints-or if they did listen, they did nothing about the problem. Finally, Goldberg had no choice but to blow the whistle on his own industry, to break the code of silence that pervades the news business. Bias is the result. As the author reveals, "liberal bias" doesn't mean simply being hard on Republicans and easy on Democrats. Real media bias is the result of how those in the media see the world-and their bias directly affects how we all see the world.
Sound familiar?

Both sides accuse the other of control, which in fact is an attempt to control in itself.
This looks interesting: "How to identify media bias."

Is that a government controlled publication? Just asking.
The whole "government controls the media" thing is just hilarious....time to give up the ghost on it Lanny. Its been repudiated for years over and over again. You keep saying the same thing...anyone who doesnt buy into a conspiracy theory is blind.....unbelievable.
This on a day that multiple big city newspapers have endorsed the OTHER guy for president.
I guess they only control the media when it conveniently suits some lame argument you have?

Is there any particular reason that every book you present here comes from the far left side of the spectrum?
Thanks Cow, you fell right into the trap I was hoping you would. You and your holier than thou bullsh*t about everything coming from this side of the political spectrum or the other. Maybe you should know a little something about David Brock and his background before spouting off.
David Brock is a very well known CONSERVATIVE writer. He's written for the Washington Times, The American Spectator, been a research fellow for the Heritage Foundation. He has even penned a couple of must have books from the Conservative Book Store. This guys knows the story because he was part of it and used it to his advantage to disparage Anita Hill. You don't get much more right wing than David Brock. Or are you saying that because he decided to expose what he felt was a threat to democracy that he switched teams and went to opposite pole?
"Has someone got control of your head there bub?"
Naww, bub, but it seems like you are one of the suckers that the media counts upon to continue the echo of mis-truths. What's funny is that Brock actually explains in great detail how the spin is spun and how people become unwitting accomplaces in the spread of disinformation. So please Cow, tell us how YOU have not bought into the mass media control mechanisms. Maybe you can explain how you didn't really believe that Iraq was a den of murderous terrorists and that they were financing and spreading their WMDs to what ever organization would take them. Come on, you've obviously been aware of the truth all along and saw through the media garbage. Maybe explain how you haven't been a media lacky in repeating their lies as promoting them as truth? Its all part of the strategy and you readily accept your role. Just admit it. You'll feel great, trust me.

Yup, that's right Tranny. Oh, and where are WMDs? Or the links to al Qeada? You would know lame arguments when they come around Goober. You've been buying into them for the past three years. PT Barnum was thinking of you when he said, :there's a sucker born every minute". Come on Tranny, say it with me! Four more years! Four more years!

That's a trap? It says right on his bio he's a conservative writer who flipped sides. So what? Those are a dime a dozen. I presented the opposite view, something you're incapable of, which apparently caused your brain to explode. You have absolutely no answer for it because there isn't one.
Your position is so full of holes and contradictions that you look like a pretzel most of the time.
You continually claim we're being sapped by Bush yet you continually post mainstream media articles to bolster your anti-Bush position. Meanwhile, more than half the newspapers in America are endorsing Kerry.
It's laughable. I love it when you talk. Keep digging. You're something else.
By the way, I posted this in another thread a minute ago in case you miss your blanky.
"Conspiracy theories are one way to make sense of what happened and regain a sense of control," Barkun said. "Of course, they're usually wrong, but they're psychologically reassuring. Because what they say is that everything is connected, nothing happens by accident, and that there is some kind of order in the world, even if it's produced by evil forces. I think psychologically, it's in a way consoling to a lot of people."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...nguage=printer
By the way, I'll be busy transporting cats around the snowy steppes of Alberta in the next while so I won't be able to reply. Not that I should bother anyway.
