Default 2007 NFL Season Thread

Thoughts after week 1

- A lot of ugly games for some teams, but usually that's the case for week one.

- Only a few more weeks till Cutler is a starting QB

- Indy's running game will make or break them this year, not a pretty week one

- If SF keeps on track, they'll be a very good team in a few years. Alex Smith easily had his best game as a starter in the NFL, Frank Gore is for real, Bryant finally gives them that #1 WR and Davis could be a pro bowl TE very soon. Finally this team is on the right track

- Baltimore is for real. They had the playmakers on defense before, but I think the McNair signing gave them the mental edge as well as a ton of confidence. The defense shut out TB.

- I share your concerns about indy. Manning is going to have a rough year if they keep throwing nickel and dime formations at him non stop. You need a decent running game.

- Brandon Jacobs is a freaking monster.

- NE is in for a very tough season w/o Branch.

- Tony Romo is coming to town.

Seattle/Detroit was U G L Y. Glad I have satellite and was able to choose between 4 games early.

Jake the Snake will pull out a few good ones, I think Cutler is spot duty until next season.

It was a good G-men defense, but the run will be a concern until someone on Indy puts up 100 yards.

And while I pray you are right about my Niners, I just worry that those were the same old Cardinals out there. But it was encouraging, and Frank Gore - wow.

Ravens are real as long as McNair stays healthy. They don't have a Volek to jump into the breach should an injury occur.

I agree with what the broadcast said - Jacobs is the true Thunder to Tiki's Lightning.

I agree about Romo, and he looked good in preseason, but is he ready? The best thing for the Cowboys would be Drew get an injury that forces him to miss a game or 2, let Romo get a taste and see how he does without dropping the franchise hopes on him fully.

I agree 100% with Baltimore. Ray Lewis is still one of the best players in the league and this guy has just been waiting forever to get a QB. If Lewis can play as good as he has in years past, this team is gonna be a contender.

The Ravens look great, (ouch Bucs fans) if McNair can stay healthy that is. My Saints were very impressive for the Saints, alas I was waiting for them to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, but then I realized Haslett wasn't coaching them anymore. Bush looked like the real deal, and Payton had him all over the field. Great move by the Seahawks getting Branch, he'll be a great addition to that offence, and he has a very impressive work ethic that won over his former teammates.

-Kansas City Chiefs are in some serious trouble. This is probably the year it all falls apart and age bites that offence in the ass. The line isn't in sync, and they won't be able to run the ball effectively. Without the run game their pass game is pretty weak, and the fact that Trent Green took a nasty hit in game one of the season is alarming. I'm predicting Chiefs go 3-13.

-Denver will be fine once the offence sorts itself out. That defence was pretty strong against a good Ram offence yesterday in a tough environment. They'll still go 11-5 at worst and win the AFC West walking away.

-Baltimore is for real as that defence is still tough and they have a QB that won't give away 14 points a game if McNair stays healthy.

-Pittsburgh is still a force as that defence is tough and they can still move the ball well enough on offence. The AFC North might be the toughest division in football.

-Giants have the makings of a solid offence with that running game. Still can't figure out why they didn't score more points last night, they should have had that game.

-If Brett Farve lasts the whole season with the Packers and can start every game that will be more impressive than lasting the last 200 games. The Packers are awful.

-NFC East is definately the toughest division in football(Philly, NYG, Wash, Dallas)
-The eagles have a pretty solid offense without TO (Westbrook creates all sorts of problems in pass coverage and stallworth is the burner they were missing, plus they've got a very underated and huge O-line)
-The bucaneers need a QB
-The packers aren't going very far this year

-Bengals are again a team to watch this year. Looked very good out there.
-Titans are going to be terrbile...GO TITANS GO! (Just like with the Flames, I will cheer for them till I die. Also, I think Vince Young is going to be better than some on this board think...but he won't be great.)
-The Seahawks didn't impress me at all. Granted it was only game 1 of the season but how does a team with that many weapons score only 9 points.
-Atlanta...wow. They have a scary defense to go along with thier good offense. Although Vick completion % doesn't inspire anyone, they still scored 20.
-Chicago another scary team. My 2 early bird picks for the super bowl are Cincinnati and Chicago.

The Bucs having Chris Simms as a starting QB is a joke. They have nobody behind him what so ever. Last year the easy schedule the Bucs had was the only reason for there playoff apperance. Simm's numbers we're okay at best last year and now with a much harder schedule he's gonna struggle

The Ravens will be real until about week five when Mcnair goes down with some sort of injury. I don't have faith in him to last the whole year.

As a Broncos fan, I don't see Cutler starting this year unless Jake totally soils the bed or gets hurt.

I think Plummer is better than he gets credit for, and having Walker should take some of the pressure off. I'm still in shock about yesterday though.

I agree with Sylvanfan in that the Broncos defense is very, very good and the offense will come around and they'll be ok.

The Chiefs are going to miss Roaf. I don't think Edwards is the right coach for that team though. There is too much talent there to go 3-13

Tiki Barber showed no signs of slowing down at all, that guy is a monster.
Brandon Jacobs will do a nice job filling in for him this season, and once Tiki retires.

I have Favre as my staring QB in one of my leagues....that ain't lookin like such a good idea now. Poor Green Bay.

I think Denver will be just fine, too good of a defense and too good of a system. However, Jake Plummer we'll not be the QB to win the Bronco's that SB. He had a DECENT year last season, however history has shown that Jake does not have enough patience to go all the way. There's a reason he's only had 3 seasons out of 10 where he's thrown more TD's the INT's.

The pressure is on Denver to win NOW after coming so close last year and Plummer isn't exatclly a fan favorite in Denver, Cutler we'll be starting by the end of the season

Well maybe Kansas City can go 4-12. Oakland looked about as bad as you possibly could last night. That is without a doubt the most pathetic attempt I've ever seen at a passing game. It could really get ugly in Oakland this year and I'll love it. Ha ha stupid Al Davis.

Oakland was an absolute embarassment. They had solid field position especially the entire game and did absolutely nothing with it.

The only redeeming thing about the Raiders offense, was handing the ball to Lechler on 4th down.

Who calls the plays anyways? Shell or the OC? Because they flashed a graphic up saying the OC was out of football since 1994, running a bed and breakfast.

Also, I liked Dick on the telecast, thought he offered some nice insight.

Oakland, welcome to the Aaron Brooks era, though to be fair he was wearing Merriman's 56 on his back all night, that guy is a beast!

Didn' Shell look like he was sitting in a nursing home? Everytime the camera showed him I could swear there was a bit of spittle running down his chin.

Why didn't they kick the field goal at the end to break the shut-out? Sure the FG didn't really matter, but neither did the TD. And it was the backup in there, so it's not like Brooks was building any confidence. Way to go Art - give up the first Raider home shutout in 25 years, and the first to SD since Al Davis was an assistant coach for SD back in 1961.

Then again, I do have LT & Merriman on one of my fantasy teams.

I think that Oakland and Green Bay might just play to a 0-0 tie when they meet later this season. Of course one of them will do something like botch a snap on their own goalline and give up a safety. But if I had to bet after watching week one I'd say thats the game for the number one pick this year.

Will OAK and GB win a game this season? I guess one of them will win a game when they meet.

Listened to part of the SD and OAK game on the radio. Boomer was going on and on about how little Marty trusted Phillip to throw the ball. Seemed like the Chargers will be content to run the ball on every down and trust the defence to win games.

Why did the MIN - WAS game not end up on the radio as advertised?
