Thrashers/Canadiens make a big trade.....

The Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens made a big trade on Thursday night. The Thrashers sent their captain Peter Forsberg to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Martin St.Louis. The Canadiens also recieve some cash in the deal.

"We thank Peter for the contributions he had as a Thrasher this season and he was a good player for us. We just were really high on St.Louis and feel he can play all 3 forward positions and brings an explosive offense to our team. Peter's health was also an issue to us and we are unclear if he will play hockey in the future. We are very happy with the move we made today." - Thrashers GM Sutaria

The Canadiens have been searching for a number one center and feel confident Forsberg will fit that bill. We really didn't want to give up St.Louis, however, we wanted a force up the middle. Stlouis wasn't able to provide that. In addition, we haven't been able to match Martin up with the line-mates that can get him motivated on a consistent basis. We are hoping fellow Swedes Alfredsson and Forsberg will click and provide a very potent multi-threat attack.
