Default ipod help

OK, so yesterday I downloaded some music and decided to update my 4th generation ipod. Plugged it in, and it wouldn't connect to itunes. It did this a few times after disconnecting and reconnecting the firewire. Eventually, it gave me the folder exclamation point logo telling me to go to support. I put it into disk mode and reset the factory settings. That worked fine, but when I plug it back into my computer, autoplay tries to run, then itunes tells me it's corrupt and i have to reset it to factory settings. Anyone have any idea how to fix this, or has my ipod bitten the dust?

I had a similar problem about a month ago....I thought the exact same thing about my video ipod as well. After about an hour's worth of flipping through the online support pages I gave up, turned off the computer and unplugged the ipod. A few hours later I tried it again, and the ipod still wouldn't respond; I did the reset and everything worked okay again.

Maybe just a little be of patience and another reset is all your ipod needs? **Mine was connected via USB though**

You can try to restore the ipod but that will clear the harddrive. It may be your only choice.

4th gen ipods are known to crap out like that. Mine did after I dropped it in water and it was toast. Hopefully yours can be saved.
The forums on the apple site are a helpful source if you want more info.

Thats exactly what my iPod did right before christmas. Sorry to say, but it was toast. I sent it into Future Shop, and they said the hard drive had died, and there was no was I was going to replace it since myne was 4th generation to, so I bought a new one for christmas. If youve tried everything to make it work, bring it into Future Shop, they are real good with dealing with iPods, you will be in there for a max. 10 minutes, instead of sending it to apple and waiting weeks.

Heres the deal. I as well, same problem. It is NOT your ipod most likely. This problem has been happeneing ever since the new itunes was released (7.02? its 7 somewhere), you can tell if its the new one as ipod updates in itunes, as opposed to usin ghte ipod updater. It causes major issues with mounting. I could use mine as a harddrive, windows saw it, but itunes refused. i tried to use the windows harddrive reformat, first using the full one. Told me my Pod was corrupt after, but after restore no luck. tried again with quick format, which didnt remove the ipod OS, therefor making it clean w/o requiring a corrupt restore. other solutions for this problem i have seen suggested on the internet:

if you have removable harddrives change your ipod drive letter to a higher letter (x,y,p, whatever)

reformat through windows

damaged cords can cause this issue

if you can, try to revert to an older itunes and ipod

reinstall itunes
