Default Cars on icy roads.

It must have been one heck of an ice storm.

Makes you wonder about people sometimes.

This actually happened in Portland this morning, having lived here for over a decade I can safely say that people here drive like complete DUMBASSES. There's a reason that neither of our cars left our garage this morning, not because I wasn't confident in my driving abilities, rather I wasn't confident in other's driving abilities here.

Hopefully no one got hurt, but that was pretty funny when the person in the first vehicle kept hitting the gas. What a f'ing moron.

That's a crazy ass hill that they are on.
I wonder if the person in the jeep had the accelerator stuck or something. But then it doesn't make sence that they started going backwards down the hill.

There are some insane hills in portland, especially on the south (west)? side of the river.

It was on the westside near downtown, and yes there are some pretty big hills there.

Growing up in Calgary, I thought I knew everything about driving in ice and snow. Then I drove in Vancouver after some freezing rain and then snow. I've never driven in anything that slippery in Calgary in my 20 years of driving. It was like a completely frictionless surface which appears to be what was happening in the video.

No sand/gravel/salt on the roads will do that... not to mention that the car you were driving there probably didn't have winter tires on... or did it?

Back in the early 90's i was driving the Deerfoot and happen to hit a patch of black ice. My vehicle started to slide sideways towards a pole. I took my foot off the gas immediately and put the car in nuetral to take power away from the drivetrain. Still sliding towards the pole so I checked and saw no one coming behind me and put the car into a spin. I did a 360 and came to a stop. It's scary when you're on ice and you have no control

I'm going to guess that's a woman driving. Either a woman or a fruit.

Good moves, too many people panic.
Probably most Calgarians know that putting your car in neutral reduces stopping distances dramatically but those on the West coast wouldn't. I got in the habit of doing this everytime I used the brakes to stop in winter conditions.

I agree that snow conditions are generally worse on the coast. I find wet snow gives poorer traction and is partly to blame for first snowfalls causing havoc in Calgary as well.

I love how nobody had sense enough to go up the hill to the corner and stop people from turning onto the hill of doom.
