Default Hussein to be hung soon; Dead as of Dec 29th.

Quote:
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The Iraqi High Tribunal's appellate chamber on Tuesday upheld Saddam Hussein's death sentence in the Dujail massacre case, Judge Aref Shaheen announced.

Shaheen said the court's decision was the final word in the case.
The toppled Iraqi dictator's execution must take place before January 27, Shaheen said. Iraqi law requires a death sentence to be carried out within 30 days.

Thats really quick..

Prepare youselves for the TV spectacle of the year...

Wow...I expected the process to be more drawn out then that.

At least 6 months.

So is this going to make that lunatic asylum better or worse? Are the crazies going to go a little crazier for a few days and use this as motivation to kill more people on the "other side"? I wouldn't be surprised.

I think having the old coot rot away in prison for the next 20 years would be better for all involved. Even for those hell bent on "revenge". At least he wouldn't turn into a martyr, and instead would turn into a doddering old fool sitting in a jail cell to the end of his days. Keep away his precious hair-dye and show him on TV every 6 months or so.

Exactly. When Hussein dies, a martyr is made, and thus violence in his name.

But on the other hand, it puts an end to a chapter that i'm sure a lot of iraqis think will be re-opened (Saddam being back in power). So it has its ups and downs, but won't solve anything in regards to the violence in Iraq, nor will it lead to a US victory or withdrawl.

I wonder if they'll play this when they walk to the gallows?

It looks like Saddam may be executed within the next few hours due to the Muslim holiday tommorow.

I don't know if the same rules apply for Martyrdom for Saddam. If you look at it, there are two groups in Iraq who make up the majority (Sh'ia, Kurds) who would like nothing better then to see Saddam hang. His support(Sunni) group which is in the minority in the country may do something, but thier also might be a demorilizing. One thing that I have found interesting is that there has been no major call for his release, or a terrorist action really linked to his name. I think Saddam will pass quietly into history.

By hanging Saddam instead of imprisoning him, you take away the temptation to use him as a focal point for activities in breaking him out of a long imprisonment.

Personally I would have prefered that they used poisoned gas on him as a payback for him using those weapons on his own people, as it stands he won't have to suffer as long as his own people did since hanging is relatively quick if done properly.

In the long run Saddam's death will allow the majority of Iraq to move on.

just my 2 cents

Oh of course.

Certainly can't miss out on that. I'm suprised the US media isn't showing it live.

ah, message board bravado.

Azure, if you were actually present for the execution of a living breathing human being, you and every other one of you online warrior cheerleaders would fill your pants just like heinrich himmler and the rest of the intellectual gangsters of the third reich.

go live a real life and stop cheerleading the deaths of others, join us in the human race for god's sake.

I for one am saddened by his death and would prefer not to witness it. Having said that I do believe in capital punishment and believe it was the right verdict in this case. He brought this on himself.
