2006 recap - what were your highlights?

tough to top the birth of my son last January. What a year! Mountain biked Whistler for the first time, clocked in over 4000km commuting to work by bicycle as well. What were your 2006 highlights?

Tough one for me...probably the worst year of my life personally, but that's not what this is about.

I became a 'regular' at my job instead of a 'flexible'. Basically means my two years of hell working 60 hours every week are over.

Made it to Montana for a week.

Won my at work Fantasy Football league and the $60 prize! Woohoo!

My highlights tend to revolve around travel
- Dove the world's 2nd largest barrier reef off of Belize
- Visited the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich in Belize
- Caught my first ocean fish

- Flew 1st class to Australia (finally saved up enough points)
- Saw Uluru (Ayers Rock)
- Hiked Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)
- Dove the Great Barrier Reef
- Had my first night diving experience
- Pet a Koala Bear
- Hand fed Kangaroo and Wallaby
- Stayed in an old Lighthouse keeper lodge
- Experienced Sydney

- and most significantly, changed jobs. (finally!)

Got myself off academic probation at school lol

Graduated University, was a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding, went on "Woody Tour 2006" with my sister, my dad survived another year of hell.

Got my first teaching job and a continuing contract after just 5 months of teaching.

how could I forget, saw the Grand Canyon and Death Valley as well.

1. Cycled across Scotland.
2. Saw the Red Square/Lenin/Moscow Kremlin/Moscow Metro
3. Went to a service at St. Pauls Cathedral
4. Went to the Louvre/Palace of Versaille
5. Visited the Red Light District
6. Worked on the Rigs (an accomplishment for myself)
7. Reconected with family I hadn't seen in a very long time
8. Gropped the Little Mermaide in Copenhagen
9. Went to more churchs in Europe that I can remember
10. Did some mountain biking for the first time.
11. Sister getting out of the ICU after it looked like she wouldn't make it for a while (that really should be #1 shouldn't it?)

Got a new Kitten after having to put my old one down

3. Reconnected with one of my best friends from years past.
4. Got a raise at my job.
5. Alex Tanguay joins the Calgary Flames.
6. Construction continues on the International Space Station (I am personally very interested in this).

Rather nondescript year as a whole... my personal life remains a disaster, but as was mentioned above, that is not what this is about.

My daughter turned 14, which in turn, makes me old. (Older is wiser, right?) Did a reno on her bedroom. Got a nice raise at work. Was my brother's emcee at his wedding. Did the "Woody Tour 2006" with my sister. Dad made it through another year of hell.

Hey this all sounds familiar...

- Bought myself a new SUV.
- Spent the month of July at my brothers lake house in Minnesota.
- Played a ton of golf.
- Volunteered another year with the Special Olympics as a coach.

Met my girlfriend in early April, she's been far and away the highlight of last year.

On top of that, we also went to Cabo San Lucas a few weeks ago, and had a fantastic vacation. On our way down there, we stopped off in San Diego and saw our first-ever NFL game, the Broncos vs. the Chargers. What a highlight!

-Went to a World Cup of soccer game (Iran/Potugal)
-Visted Paris and Amsterdam
-Went on a student exchange to Germany
-Had a beer on the beach in Florida in late December
-Got my iron ring
-Played a shinny game at the Saddledome with Joel Otto
-I graduated from University

2006 was a pretty good year.......and 2007 will even be better.

Good:
My son being born in December.
Finally buying goalie gear after alot of years of wanted to play goal.

Bad:
Being told the bank would only give me and my wife a mortage for $152,000.00 and realizing I'm going to spending a fortune on rent in 2007.
