Default Robots - possible in our lifetime?

Saw I, Robot yesterday night. Great movie.

It brought about the question, are robots (like in the movie) possible in our lifetime? Although robots exist today, they are not common place in societies (most exist for labor jobs and manufacturing), and I don't believe you can talk to them like the movie.

What are your thoughts and opinions?

They already have receptionist robots in Japan that companies can hire to replace employees while they are away.

You can speak to it and it will tell you an answer toy your question.

Just think of those new'ish automated telephone systems where you just tell the computer what you need. It is just a matter of a little time before that tech takes another leap...

Considering where computers were 15 years ago...yes I think we will have robots for everday use in the near future.

Technology is progressing.

I don't really know if they will necessarily be the same as those in Irobot.
