Default Foxtrot cutting back to once a week.

As of Dec. 31, Bill Amend will only publish a Sunday cartoon.

Quote:
After spending close to half of my life writing and drawing FoxTrot cartoons, I think it’s time I got out of the house and tried some new things,” said Amend. “I love cartooning and I absolutely want to continue doing the strip, just not at the current all-consuming pace. I’ve been blessed over the years with a terrific syndicate, patient newspaper clients, and more support from readers than I probably deserve, and I want to assure them all that while I’ll be now a less-frequent participant on the comics pages, I’ll continue to treat my visits as the special privilege they are.
Geez, this was another of the few comic strips I liked (it is actually on my "MyYahoo" page I looked at every day).

It seems like the artists who actually created the funnier cartoons tend to retire early, maybe its harder to do Calvin and Hobbes, or foxtrot or Bloom County then some of the unfunny crap that litters the funny pages.

Even Burke Breathed has struggled to stay fresh with his other offerings like Outland.

Maybe they can make us laugh once a week now too...

In all fairness, was an awesome strip for may years. Like all strips though, started repeating all the same concepts.

Dilbert lost it a few years ago too.

I wil argree Calvin and Hobbes was fairly strong to the end (though not as good as it was before it's last year or so) A lot of that was the amazing artwork too though. Just fun to look at and read. Our generations Peanuts but better.

Dilbert prbably made me laugh out loud the most, but it's a hit and miss for a while.

Just the nature of things I think.
