Roughnecks Lacrosse!!!
So, whose all going to the season opener tonight?? 7:30 at the Dome.
I've had seasons for 5 years now (since they came to Calgary). I've got to say it comes close to hockey for excitement at the game. They use some hokey things to get the fans going, but it is alot of fun. And it is the best value for your $$. $210 for seasons behind the benches on centre ice.
Going the games actually got me involved with the Masters lacrosse here in Calgary (even though I'm no old goat at 27).
Should be good times - GO NECKS GO!!

Looking forward to the season this year. Hopefully this years edition has the heart the last two teams didnt.
Kinda sucks that we have to go to Edmonton tomorrow after playing tonight though. The Rush are markedly improved, and we will be tired.

The game was exciting, but I am a little disappointed in the Roughnecks. They were a little weak in the first half, the third quarter was good, but then they just tried to sit on a lead in the fourth. That is not the way to win games.
I've had season tickets for three years now. I am right on the centre line in the sixth row in the upper bowl. I love the seats and we are surrounded by a bunch of great fans.
James.

went to tonight's game as well. I dunno, maybe I should watch more, but it just didn't do it for me...no emotional attachment and such. Decent entertainment, but not as good as, say, a Flames or Stamps game for me. Aside from blowing the lead in the 4th, I'd have to say the biggest disappointment was that there's dudes on the cheer team. That kind of thing is more up the alley of the Edmonton Bum Rush

What are the attendance figures like these days at Roughnecks games? Do they compare well to the rest of the league?

Attendance is pretty good. It is growing steadily year over year and should get over 12,000 average this season (last night 12,370). Last year they averaged 11,777 which was a over the NLL average of 10,692 and had a nice gain over the previous year of 10,208. I got these numbers from here. The only anomaly seems to be that it dropped from 2003 to 2004. However, I know that they gave away a lot of tickets early in the franchise history (the first few games I attended were freebies.)

Not sure, but it looked like some recriuting tool that was poorly organized.
I think the CR are in for a tough year. That is absolutely the worst goalie I've ever seen at that level.

Typically around 4th-6th in the league every year. Colorado and Toronto are the class of the league, always over 16,000 on average. After that, Calgary, Buffalo and Philly around 10-12,000, with Edmonton likely to fit into the same group. Then Rochester about 9000. Phoenix and likely Portland right below. At the bottom, San Jose. This may well be their last season if their opening night crowd is any indication.

In NLL related news, Dennis Rodman was invited/paid by the Rush owner Urban (the same dink that proclaimed he had a deal to buy the Stamps from Feterik a few weeks before the Forzani group bought it a few years ago..a baseless statement). A $30,000 tab included Rodman being late, a profanity laced speech to the team before the game, and a media scrum in the only way Rodman can do it. And Rodman's first question was asking about the strip bars in Edmonton.
Nothing against Rodman, or the NLL...but thank goodness that this idiot Urban has nothing to do with Calgary sports (although he does own his business here) especially the Stamps.

Huge win for the Roughnecks tonight. Beat the crap out of Colorado, who gave Anaheim a run for their money in the "how many times can you dive in one game" department.
The Roughnecks penalty kill is atrocious, however.

It is indeed, though getting 3 shorties helps in that regard.
Last night's game was all about the play of Andrew Leyshon. Had another rough start but after the 1st quarter was VERY solid, and. Game was 12-12 heading into that final quarter and Leyshon shut the door.
Also a quick side note re. Tracey Keluwsky - played in his 100th game last night and the Riggers were given an penalty shot late in the game. Chris Hall asked Keluwsky if he wanted to take it, being that it was 100th game. However, Keluwsky passed the opportunity on to Lewis Ratcliffe who was one short of his first ever 6 goal game.
Demonstrates what a classy, team-first guy Keluwsky is. And Ratcliffe did score to get his career high. Great night overall for the Riggers.

Kelusky is awesome. I missed last night's game as I was at Rexall place doing my other duties. I have Roughnecks season tickets (and have been too lazy to find this thread) Glad to hear that the mammoth got dropped.

It felt like it was a different team that showed up last night compared to last week. Leyshon played what was probably one of the best games in his career. The passes were a lot more solid and the Riggers had a much more physical game. It was great to watch.
That penalty shot was neat. I have never seen one in lacrosse before.

I totally agree that it felt like a different team last night. They got down 3 goals early but were able to bounce back after that. Plus being able to hold on to a lead down the stretch is crucial. Big win against a very good Mammoth team (even though the beat up the bum Rush last night )
Leyshon needs to close his freaking legs, 4 goals through the wickets.
Great atmosphere, lots of fun. Plus I could keep my eye on the TVs for the big game up north vs. the Coilers.

As good as Kleusky and Toth are, I think this team would fall apart with out Ratcliffe. He may not score 5 goals a game, but he seemed to be the essential cog to most of the Riggers goals. Nice to have that kind of presence on the team.
Having said that, the dynamic duo of #9 and #17 is amazing. If they can play the way that they played Saturday night, it's gonna be an amazing season.
