What do you guys think? I agree that they are being a tad "Grinchish". My celebration of Christmas has nothing to do with religion. It's a great holiday for the kids and a good excuse to get together with family.
ugh, do we really have to go through this every year now? Is it really that hard for people to let others celebrate whatever they want without it being judged?

The issue is really on of simple respect - though a 'giant' chanukiah is a bit excessive.
I have this issue every year with both my office building management company and City Hall (in TO).
Each year they put up trees, hollies, and poinsettas in a way that are clear to me that they are 'Christmas decorations', the boxes are even labeled as such (in the office building).
I have written requesting they also include a chanukiah (Jewish candleabra) or another Hanukah symbol be added to the display. The response has been that if I supply it, then maybe ok. My reply has always been "who pays for the items that are already there? A consortium of the employees?"
If a public body is going to decorate a public space they should be cognisant of who will be walking through that space. If they decorate with 'Christmas' symbols at their expense then they should be willing to decorate with other symbols at their expense, within reason.
The airport's argument that they didn't have time to play 'anthropologist' is BS! The money they spent bringing down the decorations could have been spent on one staffer doing a little reasearch. It really is not that hard. The sect that that rabbi belongs to generally does not run to a lawyer but tries to educate the propery managers and help aquire the chanukiah for the display (as happened with Vaughan Mills Mall in Toronto).

I love messing with people's heads when I go shopping in December. Usually people will bag up your purchase and say "Have a Merry Christmas!" My favourite reply is "The dark master forbids it" and then I leave the store without cracking a smile. Fun stuff. Good times.

I think you should add a hiss before or after you say that to add emphasis.

And that is a case of an overly sensitive person looking for offence in everything.
If the guy was standing in the middle of the shop yelling carols at the top of his lungs, then please make him stop. But wearing unobtrusive seasonal clothing - he wasn't wearing raindeer antlers and poking people - what's the trouble?

A Christmas tree is a Christmas symbol the same as a chanukiah is a Hanukah symbol. Each is associated with the respective holiday, to the point where it is hard to disassociate a pine tree trimmed with lights (even if they are blue & white) from Christmas. Since it is tied to a Christian holiday it becomes a Christian symbol.
Especially strange considering Christmas really has nothing to do with religion.
true that it didn't used to be a religious holiday, but now it is. just because Christmas today has no religious meaning for you, doesn't mean that it can't for others.

Ah, so I guess rabbits decorated with pastel colored ribbons and a basket are a Christian symbol as well.
Sorry, not buying it. Too many non-Christians celebrate Christmas in the traditional way without a mention or thought of Christ for that to be valid.
Frankly, I think more people associate Santa Claus with Christmas than Jesus.

Some people are indeed crazy. A few years ago, my company had a lady that would get offended if we put up a Christmas tree in the company. Since it is by the order of the president of the company, she couldn't do anything, but would take every opportunity to criticize any christmas decorations...including my little tree in MY OWN OFFICE.
I'm glad she quit awhile ago. She would have freaked if she saw our new company tree.
