Default Cut-your own Christmas tree

Anyone have any suggestions for good places to go to cut your own Christmas tree? The kiddies are old enough that they'd probably enjoy it this year. I found a website listing places to get the permit, but what are good spots to actually grab a tree?

Thanks,
Scott

I get the head out as a family and cut down the tree thing but you can't beat just going to IKEA. $20 for a tree and run by a charity so at least some of the cash(maybe all --not sure) going to a good cause. They have two different kinds of trees and wrapped up for easy carting home even if you are sticking them in your Toyota Tercel(which I did and with ease). Plus you get a coupon for money off your next purchase at IKEA. Super deal IMO!!!

^^^I think you missed the point. He doesn't just want a real tree. He wants to take his family out to cut down their own Christmas tree togther in the country.

I don't have a clue where you would do it around here. When I was growing up in Southern Alberta, my family allways hosted a Christmas Tree cutting party every year. We would invite all the neighbors and friends and head up into the hills to cut Christmas trees. About 50 people would attend. It was allways the hi-light of the season.

I think you missed the point. He didn't want a piece of nostalgia about your past but rather wanted to know where he could cut down a tree.

I was just telling him how fun it is to cut down your own tree and I that understood why he wanted to do it.

I think you both missed the point.. Clearly what he needs to do is go to the local metal scrap yard with the family and pick out a lovely festivus pole. lol

I am sure your kids would love the whole go out and cut the tree thing.. out here in NB there is a place we used to go that took you out into the woods on a horse and sleigh and gave you cider etc. it is great.

We looked into cutting our own tree a couple years back. I know there is a place out near Cremona (north of Cochrane) I am sorry I can't recall any more details though

You all missed the point... what he really wants to do is drive to Canadian Tire and get an artificial, upside-down Christmas tree. Because, lets face it, nothing says christmas like an artificial, upside-down Christmas tree.

Is that like flying a flag upside down? That you're surrendering to the evil forces of Christmas?

I never understood the concept of getting a "real" tree for christmas. Minus the scent and the mess it makes, it serves no other purpose other than to cut down trees, and since most people are turning into the extreme environmentalist left, isn't this a bad thing?

I have just as much of a right to drive my big V8 5.9L SUV as the next person does to chop down a tree for unnecessary purposes. Think of all the trees that could be saved if everyone had a fake tree?

Fake Trees FTW

Actually it was on the news the other days that real trees are better for the enviroment. For the most part christmas trees are farmed so it's not as if we are cutting down forests for them. While farming these trees provide all the wonders that other trees do. When you are finished with a christmas tree you ushually send it off to get mulched where it is then reused for various purposes.

Artificial trees are ushually thrown away after a few years of service. Even if you were to use the tree for 20 years it would still end up in a dump.

There is a place out by Kananaskis...went out there a couple of years ago, but was following the brother in law.

I do remember it being a popular place for the hunters...
