Default Xbox 360 Warranty Reminder - For those early adopters

Just a reminder for those that got their 360 very early, it's very close to your warranty expiring (Microsoft extended the warranty for everyone who bought one before Jan 1, 2006 to 1 year).

I say this because I just bought an extension on my warranty as I've been having freezing and red ring of death issues the past few days.

So call in and get the extended warranty, it's like $30 or something for 1 year; well worth it.

Good idea!

I have yet to purchase an Xbox - just sort of waiting until it's not a big purchase (saved a bit of binge cash), but was curious if there have been revisions of the xbox's.

With the last one there were drive changes, CPU adjustments IIRC, and the power cable stuff.

Has anything like that happened with the 360's thus far?

Xbox 360 CPU Getting Upgraded
CPU improvements should cool it down.
by Luke Smith, 04/21/2006 114 of 131 users recommend this story.
That warm machine you've been playing GRAW on is going to run a little cooler in the future. A release from Chartered Semiconductors details a deal between Microsoft and Chartered for a 65-nanometer manufacturing agreement for the Xbox 360 CPU. The chip production for the CPU is slated to begin in first quarter 2007 and the tech-heavy release is a little tough to digest. Eventually, this change will help Microsoft lessen production costs for the unit, in addition to having the system run a little cooler. In other words, Xbox 360's of the future are going to be fitter, happier and more productive. However, before everyone starts bouncing off of their "jump to conclusions" mats, keep in mind that technical revisions happen frequently with consoles. While this is one of the first publicized changes to the Xbox 360 - it won't be the last. Just like Sony's PS2 went through numerous changes, Microsoft's Xbox 360 will, and it's a safe bet we'll see revisions to the PS3 at some point. It happens, it's a part of the industry.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD in 2006
Microsoft reportedly looking into updated model for next year.
by Anoop Gantayat

December 14, 2005 - Remember all that talk about future Xbox 360 revisions possibly including an HD-DVD player as standard? Today, Japan's Jiji News service reports that Microsoft is planning such an update for as early as next year!
According to the Jiji report, Microsoft revealed on the 14th that it has entered final stages with Toshiba and other HD-DVD backers on the development of an HD-DVD capable Xbox 360. The company is looking into the possibility of releasing the updated version of the hardware next year, although such a release won't happen until after Spring.
Microsoft has yet to respond to this story. Previously, Microsoft Japan representatives have suggested that HD-DVD will be a part of the Xbox 360's future, albeit for movie playback only.

Hopefully my buddy Andrew sees this thread. I'll let him tell you the adventures he's had with his XBox 360.

So do all these revisions mean its better to hold off buying one for a while? I don't wanna get one only to have a better one released shortly thereafter.

Did anyone here get the HD-DVD Drive for the 360?

Bestbuy says it was released Nov 10 for $199.

Just call in to their support line and they can help you get more warranty. I'm sure they'd be happy to take your money.

And now my 360 won't boot at all, I get the red ring all the time now.

My friend from work had his fail (got his right at launch too) and his failed a few weeks ago.. said they were really fast in sending it to him (3 day turn around).

It took them 5 work days to get me my new one, Which is very good compared to the weeks it took for my friend.

I would assume that is a pic of the power button? And the red light probably means there is some kind of problem?

I dont have one of these, but that would be my guess.

Yup, the three lit red lights (and the unlit top right one) mean that there's a hardware failure.

So, I experienced the Red Ring of Death today.

I am currently on hold with Microsoft support (going on 34 minutes now) after having talked to a person who could barely speak english...

I suspect I will be going through hell to get this actually repaired and returned...

I have no warranty (never buy them - this is the first piece of electronics that has ever failed for me), but I had read somewhere that machines manufactured before 2006 would be repaired for free due to manufacturing problems - has any one experience this one way or the other?

I'm aware of a Xbox 360, recently purchased.

Unfortunately the Xbox 360 cant not be opened in till the 25th of the month (hint hint).

After reading this thread i got a little worried, so here is my question.

Since it was recently purchased is it just a likely to suffer from the Red Ring of Death as the consoles purchased when the system came out?.

Thanks in advance.
