The weekend was the coldest since january of 2005.

This week is going to be the coldest since 1996.

I hope this is not an omen of things to come this winter.

"The Calgary Humane Society is calling on all Calgary pet owners to use common sense and not leave animals outside without adequate shelter," she said.

What would be considered adequate shelter in this weather? I thought it was just sort of a given for people to keep the dog and cat inside when it's this cold.

You'd be surprised how dense some people are, more worried about their new furniture then the warmth and health of there pets.

I have a neighbor in my neck of the woods here, new sub division, I've noticed he has put two of his dogs outside for long periods of time. I've been flirting with the idea of calling the humane society for the past two nights. The poor guys just sit on the steps too cold to even sit down.

I gotta ask.. what's holding you back. I mean I'd probably talk to the guy first, and if he's a dick then call the humane society.. this weather just isn't right for anyone or anything.

Just call the humane society... If the owner is ignorant enough in the first place to leave his dog out there, he's got some kind of personality defect and is probably a dick in the first place.

Git er done, I hate to see/hear of any animal abuse even if it's due to sheer ignorance.

I wouldnt even talk, just call. A visit from bylaw or the cops might knock some sense into the heads of the idiots with the dogs.

I was about to last night and he brought the dog in, so I didn't want to have someone show up and see two toasty dogs laying on a rug, although I think he just keeps them in his garage anyways. If I see either throughout the night I'll call.

Only a few things make me not regret leaving Calgary and this thread is one of them. We havent even had snow out here yet and the temperature has only been below 0 three nights, I havent even had to scrape the windshield of my truck yet!

The flipside, however, is that the air doesnt stick to us in the summer. I'll take a few weeks of wearing 16 layers over an entire summer of oppressive humidity.

Yay! Best thing I've read all day! It's supposed to be 12 here tomorrow...

Exactly! I've spent some time out east and absolutely hated the summer humidity.
