POWERPLAY SIZZLES EN ROUTE TO 7-2 VICTORY

Ryan Getzlaf celebrates his 11th of the season in the first period.
UNIONDALE, NY - The New York Islanders exploded for seven goals Tuesday night to surprise the visiting Ottawa Senators.
With the dismantling of the Bruins in Boston last night by Boston General Manager Kris Fernet, there were rumblings all night long that Fernet was perhaps pursuing a few of the Islanders' young stars.
But dawn broke this morning with no news of a trade to which the Islanders responded with a 7-2 thumping of the Ottawa Senators.
Goals were a-plenty Tuesday night with seven different scorers for the hometown heroes as Ryan Getzlaf (11), Tom Preissing (3), Marek Svatos (12), Derek Roy (8), Robert Nilsson (12), Jim Slater (1) and David Vyborny (10) were all able to find the back of the net.
The real story of the night however, was the explosion of the Islanders powerplay which went 4 for 5 on the night improving their powerplay efficiency after the game to 18.5% and good enough for 6th in the CPHL.
"We've managed to do pretty well this year with the powerplay," Islanders captain Chris Phillips commented. "It goes a long way in games in this league and without capitalizing tonight it would have been a lot closer than it ended up."
David Vyborny continued his hot streak with another 3 point performance. His 1 goal, 2 assist effort has given him 6 points in the last two games.
"I haven't been playing the way I know I can this year," Vyborny said afterwards. "Hopefully, I can continue improving and help the team win some games."
The Islanders will fly to Atlanta tomorrow morning where they'll face the Thrashers in Game 1 of a home-and-home series with the second half returning to Long Island Thursday.
