Default Don't reject or abandon AIDS victims, Pope says

He called for renewed efforts by scientists and doctors to find cures for infectious diseases such as AIDS, leprosy, plague, tuberculosis and ebola, as well as methods of alleviating the suffering of those already victims.
In his address, the Pope did not mention the Church's position on AIDS and condoms, which still has not been definitively formulated.

I know the church has been looking at repealing their antiquated condom law/rule. However, who does the Pope think he is by asking scientists to do more for the suffering when the Catholic church has helped to create this quagmire? Its the Catholic church who has abandoned their people!
Shouldnt the Pope be channeling directly with God for a cure, as opposed to asking scientists to do his work?

Dont be a reject!

Once again the pope ****es on the KJB.

Thanks Pope now you and Pat Robertson can SHUT THE FATA UP.

People need to take responisbilities for thier own actions and quit screwing anything in site.

Newsflash to those who actually listen to the Vatican - there is nothing in the KJB that is against condoms - plain & simple - dont believe me, read it and find out for yourself.

I don't think it is as simple as screwing everything in site. A lot of these aids victims get the virus because many hospitals re-use needles as they do not have the money to use a new one everytime. Then when they get infected....do you tell them hey you can't have sex with your spouse?

The church needs to ****off with this Condoms are bad bull****. Just thinking about that ****es me off.

I don't think it is entirely about screwing everything in sight. Blood transfusions - remember the Red Cross scandal of the early 90's - plus what about the situations in where a person is in a committed relationship, but their partner has been unfaithful, or contracted it prior to the relationship - I heard it can take up to six months before the virus can appear after sexual intercourse.

Having the opinion that only sluts and players have AIDS is outdated, and has probably played a role in society not accepting AIDS victims.

The Red Cross thing was about hepatitus wasn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, just going from memory...

Ah, I just asked a co-worker, and he seems to think that it was Hep C as well... hmmm, I apologize. I'll do some research and get back to you. I don't know why I thought it was AIDS...

Not to mention the rampent aids in third world countries were they simple don't know enough about it, or don't have access to condoms.
It's easy to lay the blame on the individuals but so many of these individuals just aren't educated enough to know better.

The Canadian Red Cross Used Blood Contaminated With the HIV Virus

05/31/05 -- The Canadian Red Cross has admitted that they were at fault in the distribution of contaminated blood supplies. These supplies have led to the infection of thousands of Canadians with the HIV virus, which in turn causes AIDS and Hepatitis C. More than 3,000 people have died during the 1980’s due to the contaminated blood supplies. This exposure to contaminated blood is considered one of Canada’s worst health catastrophes ever. After years of legal wrangling, this admission from the Canadian Red Cross comes as part of a plea bargain made with representatives of the prosecution to avoid charges of criminal negligence.

Blood transfusions, performed with the contaminated blood, infected more than 1,000 people with the HIV virus and more than 20,000 with Hepatitis C. Most of the victims were already suffering from lack of red blood cells. The result of a general investigation of the Canadian Red Cross, which has been collecting and distributing blood for decades, has led to its termination of this type of work. A government agency has since been contracted.
As a result of the scandal, numerous lawsuits have been filed against the Canadian Red Cross. These lawsuits came immediately after the admission from the Canadian Red Cross concerning its responsibility in distributing contaminated blood. The Red Cross is now facing reparation costs that may exceed 5,000 dollars. The Canadian Red Cross will also donate more than one million dollars towards scientific research as well as offer research grants.

It doesn't help when you have the church saying it is wrong to use condoms.

Playing Devil's Advocate here: They're pretty clear on the no pre-marital sex thing too. Can't help but think that some people are picking-and-choosing amongst the rules just an inny-teeny bit to rationalize that casual sex is A-OK; but not with a condom -- that's a sin!
