Default Alberta tops work output

Albertans are working more than residents in any other province, according to Statistics Canada.

A study of hours worked and labour productivity showed Albertans put in an average of 1,970 hours per worker last year.
That compares with a national average of 1,830 hours per worker.
Employees in Quebec recorded the least amount of time on the job, logging an average of 1,724 hours per worker in 2005

Looks like we in Alberta are supporting those in Quebec. Goes to show where all our EI premiums end up.

Could it be because there's more work to do here?

Wow. You must live to work. I work to live. Bad math or not, from what I read that's a lot of working hours.

I work somewhere in the mid-2000s which is well above the national average and I'm thinkin' that's way too much. I want to get down to the national average because I want time to enjoy my life. I suppose I could work 3,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 but I've got things I enjoy doing more than work.

BTW - here is the graph from our web page with the details:

I think some people live to work. I've seen it. They are workoholics, literally. Not for me, but if they wan't to work themselves into the ground, go right ahead. Personally I need the balanced work life/personal life, or I will go mentally insane. The only way I could devote a disgusting amount of hours to a job is if I was in an industry that I absolutely loved and was my passion. I'm not in that industry yet.
