Default For the love of Pete, people, slow down!

Listen, I know a lot of 'seasoned' drivers out there get frustrated when the snow falls, and a number of people 'forget how to drive'. Some people seem to feel that it is their responsibility to drive faster in worse conditions to prove that they are good drivers, or that they aren't afraid of standard winter conditions.

Well, last Wednesday a good friend of mine lost the child she was carrying, and is in the Foothills ICU with countless broken bones throughout her body, just because some punk thought nothing would go wrong while doing 120 along HWY 2 in winter conditions. Turns out he's not invincible, and neither are the other folks on the road. He lost control, flew over the median and slammed into my friend's vehicle.

I understand that the guys doing 60km/h are frustrating, but please don't think you're invincible, just because you've never been in an accident before. You never know when you're going to hit that patch of black ice. Please take it easy and make it home alive.

Amen....

Sorry to hear about your friend. That is terrible.

The slow drivers are frustrating sometimes but they aren't going to kill anyone. If someone is going to make you 5 minutes late it is better than some other ass that is going to cause an accident or God forbid a death.

Geez, I am sorry to hear about your friend.

It's one thing to go the speed limit in winter conditions, but 120?

What an idiot.

Dominic, that's awful. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I think people forget that 120 is quite fast anyway--in winter conditions, that's positively insane.

I hope he's facing serious charges of some kind. It sounds like as is all too often the case, his recklessness has ended in tragedy for somebody else.

Awwww sorry to hear about your friend.

I see idiots on the road every day especially during the winter. That stupid punk is going to have live with the fact that he killed an unborn baby. I hope it haunts him for the rest of his life!

Hope she gets better real soon. All the best for her speedy recovery.

And that's all he's going to get, it seems. I visited with the husband this morning, and he says that there's no proof that the other driver did anything but tap the brakes to send him flying across the highway. And there's nothing against the law when it comes to tapping your brakes. Unbelievable, I tap someone in a rear-ender and I get a 450 dollar fine for following too close. This guy gets nothing.

Doctors are estimating her time at Foothills to be between 6 months and a year and a half. Her husband will be living out of a suitcase for the duration, since they live in Lethbridge. He'd rather stay right beside the hospital in a hotel (covered by insurance, apparently) then stay 20 minutes away at my place. That's a rough life.

Wow, what a terrible and tragic situation. I hope for all the best for your friend and her family.

Thankfully you are near by and can give the husband lots of emotional support. He sounds like a very loving and caring man. I agree it's rough life and hopefully your support will make it easier for him to bear.

Christ, this is like my worst nightmare. My wife gave birth last month and thoughts like these were running through my head the whole pregancy.

I'm awfully sorry for your friend's loss.

As for the moron that decided to murder, he should be charged with careless driving (I can't remember the exact name). That is a criminal charge, so I hope he gets some jail time for what he did.

Failing that, I have some friends from Forest Lawn that would be more than happy to find the goof and use his head as a soccer ball.

Pregnancies, in my experience, are tense times. There are so many things that can go wrong, things that are completely out of your control, and I can't help but worry about them. My wife is pregnant with our second kid, and things don't seem to be any easier that way this time around.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

I have a 14 month old daughter, and I was worried each time my drove to work when she was pregnant.

I don't see why he couldn't be charged with reckless driving unless they don't have enough evidence.

Very sorry for your friends loss and the situation they are in.

Pretty sure he will be up for Vehicular Manslaughter, hope they through the f$%*&#g book at him too.

Needless/preventable death like this makes my blood boil. Especialy when it involves some a$$ clown driving way to fast in bad conditions.

I don't think he can be charged with vehicular manslaughter as a miscarriage is not the same as the death of a person who has been born.

Wow - sorry for your loss - whereabouts did he cross the middle, was it north of the Airdire Grain elevators where they put that black top on?

Also sorry for your friends loss, the above poster is correct, a destructed fetus is not considered manslaughter.

That kid should have his license taken away permanently.

There is no such charge as "vehicular manslaughter" in Canada.

The closest charge in Canada would probably be "Dangerous Driving Causing Death"
