PS3 Could Be Delayed
http://ps2.gamespy.com/articles/690/690652p1.html
Damnit, I held off getting a 360 just so I could see how PS3 was and now I might have to wait as long as another year before getting a next gen console.

That really sucks, i've been waiting for the ps3 to come out as well. I suppose the only good to come from this is i'll have more time to get the $500 i'm gonna need for it.

Gamespot has a new article out that puts the cost of manufacture of the PS3 at $300 more than the 360. Pretty much indicates a sticker price of $300 more (console losses tend to be a constant $100-150 per unit). If they mark it down to be price competitive Sony could very well be putting the company on the line. They would need the Blu-ray to completely drive HD-DVD from the movie market sooner rather than later. They can not afford to have Blu-ray be Beta in this battle (as in the Beta vs VHS battle....superior technology but more expensive and not adopted). Then again they be willing to risk it as Sony electronic is in a downward spiral to begin with.

The delay is having another effect - cheaper video games. Software companies are starting to lower prices on new releases because of a dip in sales. The belief in the industry is consumers are putting off purchases while they wait to purchase new gaming platforms like the 360 or the new Playstation when it's launched.

And another point of view.

The promised spring launch (which was expected in Japan, but not North America) will likely be pushed back, they said. The North American launch, which was always expected to occur later this year (November is the consensus), is not expected to change. Europe may well not see the PS3 until next year.

The new generation of gaming is not exciting me at all. There doesn't seem to be much innovation. Look at the 360, I could have bought one last night, they had them at futureshop. But I aint paying $500 plus for the same old war games and car games we've seen a million times with better graphics. There are no games of interest out right now, or even on the horizon from what i've seen. Maybe i'm just getting too old. I might decide to get a new system when I see NHL 07 in action.

The home gaming bubble is going to burst there is no innovation, the market is completely hardware driven and if the price is over $500 people will likely stick with what they have or else just buy a PC.
Someone posted a link from this site earlier but I think this guy makes some excellent points:

That said, I think the Nintendo Revolution will come out as the winner. It is clearly the most innovative and if (big if) they get the games right and keep the price down we could see a rebirth of the very stagnant gaming market right now.

As long as they keep making the majority of their games aimed at kids Sony and Microsoft will still lead the pack. The video game market isnt aimed for kids anymore like it was 15 years ago.
If Nintendo tried to shake their kiddy image a bit and started releasing more mature games I would consider getting a Revolution but as long as they keep releasing mostly Mario and Zelda type games I wont even give them a second look.

I prefer PC gaming, but for playin gone on one with a friend the console seems to be the way to go. (I know, I can do it on PC, but I have to get controllers, and so on, and I already have my PS2 hooked up to Dell 2405 and the 5.1 surround)
Unfortunately I haven't had time to play games in months. But this week
end is looking like a good one to do a bit of gaming. Anyone played anything recent that they can give a review on?

I prefer PC gaming as well but I really would like to start playing games I cant on PC. Whether I get a PS3 or 360 really boils down to which system has more console only games that I'm interested in.

sony has already come out and said that they will be selling the PS3 at a loss so that they can get bluray players out on the market. The price will prolli be around 600 bucks (which is what the PS2 was when it first came out).

So what you're saying is as long as they keep releasing some of the most succesful, highly rated, biggest selling games of all time then you wont get the the Revolution?
Wha?

I'm done with those types of games. I loved them when I was small but I've grown out of them and now they bore me. I'm not saying they should stop making them but they should tone it down a bit. What are they going to make next? Mario Curling?

The Revolution will be the best system when it's all said and done. I have no idea why anyone would buy a 360, it came out with 0 good games that aren't already on the regular XBOX. You're paying for graphics, and if you don't have an HDTV, you're just wasting your money.
The PS3 will be a ton better, but will probably cost almost double, if they come out with some good games during the launch it could end up being the top between the two.
I can't wait for the Revolution because of their feature to be able to play any game from any Nintendo console ever. I'm so sick of the new games that come out now a days, no content, no story line, just graphics and other bull****. I remember when games used to take 50 hours to beat, now they give you fable and it's over in 10. yay, thanks for wasting my $50.
