Default I wanna join an ice hockey league

I really want to start playing hockey more. I never played organized hockey before. I am a decent skater. I don't want to play shinny all that much because there's too much difference in skill level. Is any in a league where there are divisions for certain skill levels? Anyone need a player who will hustle? I want to improve and play competively.

Same here... Pretty much exactly.

I also have three friends in the same boat. I did play minor hockey from 6-12 yrs old, but that was eons ago; it is long gone, trust me.

Some sort of league where you started at the bottom and worked up from season to season would be good.

Or, even better, some type of hockey school combined with shinny league where you practice and play too. It is so hard to get better just playing shinny, because out of an hour, you are on the ice for a maybe 15 minutes.

Anything like that exist?

We just had a thread on this. I'm in the NCHL, and it's a good league, although some people don't like the locations.

There are two lower level teams in the NCHL that just completed their begginer program. Both teams are short, and the league was sending out e-mails seeing if they could find more players to join.

Contact leagues are hard to find unless you play at a high level.

I play in the CAHL (cahl.ca)

Good league... but we get blown out every game because the #1 team is full of ex-junior A players or something, because they're crazy good.

but its still fun.

You should come play in the Coral Ridge Ice Arena hockey league in Coralville, IA. It's technically "no-check" but allows incidental contact as long as the objective is the puck.

The X-factor? Referees who have never played hockey and have no idea what they're doing. The result is a lot of big hits in every game. My wife is constantly bugging me to quit because she thinks the league is a little "bush league" in that regard, with frustrated teams headhunting, and bigger guys looking for that open-ice hit knowing that there's only a 50/50 chance that the ref will call a penalty.

Once I got drilled behind the net, stood up to shake the mothballs out of my head.... and then promptly got sent to the box for Charging because I "left my feet." Of course I left my feet! I got clobbered by a much bigger guy! I left my feet in the act of falling on my ass!

Anyway--sounds like a great league for someone who likes hitting, right?

There's a great league that runs during the summer months, which doesn't start til April or May that offers 5 different divisions based on skill level. I usually play in division 2 or 3, but it's very competitive as you don't get team blowing each other out as the better team would move up, or the worse team would move down. They also try to keep the teams fair by not allowing previous AA players to play on the lower division teams.
