Wow, another big win for the suddenly high-octane offense of the New Jersey Devils ... not to mention a light night for Khabibulin (22 shots). World beaters!

NAGY DELIVERS CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

Ladislav Nagy celebrates with teammates after scoring his second of the game to give the Capitals the 3-2 overtime victory.

UNIONDALE, NY - The Islanders dominated for most of the game but were able to salvage only a point in Tuesday night's affair versus the visiting Capitals.

28-16 was the final shots tally with the New York Islanders surprisingly leading the way. The final score however, was less favourable for Islander fans as the visitors clipped the home team 3-2 in overtime.

Marek Svatos opened the scoring in the first period when he received a soft pass from Tim Connolly and finished the play off with a slick move which left Auld moving the opposite direction the puck eventually went.

The goal was Svatos' 8th of the season and allowed the young sniper to extend his point-scoring streak to six games.

The Islanders took the one-goal lead into the third period with solid defensive play before two quick powerplay goals allowed the Capitals to take their first lead of the game.

Markus Naslund's 8th of the season tied the game at one goal apiece early in the third period and Ladislav Nagy's marker six minutes later forged the visitors ahead to the shock of the sold out crowd at Nassau Veterans Memorial Colliseum.

Ryan Getzlaf would answer on the powerplay however, to push the game into overtime, re-directing a Marek Svatos slap-pass past Washington netminder Alex Auld.

Unfortunately for the Islanders, Ladislav Nagy would eventually score in overtime beating Steve Shields over the left shoulder with a slap shot from 10-feet out.

"The guys really played well tonight and I let them down," a discouraged Shields said afterwards. "I'll put it behind me though and be better the next time I get a chance."

"When you limit a team like the Washington Capitals to 16 shots against, it's the goalie's job then to answer the call," Head Coach Robinson said. "He simply didn't do that tonight. It's unfortunate."

The next game for the Islanders will be on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

If Jesus was once a person, he has no doubt come back as the one and only...

GLEN MURRAY

He's an unstopable force who has taken over the CPHL. The other peons in the league bow down to his holyness. Reach out and ye shall score. Deke and ye shall dominate.

Glen Murray scored 4 goals and was a +5 as the Panthers beat the league leading Avalanche 6-5.

Murray leads the league with 14 goals in 14 games...

Hmmmmm. Well that's different. The Wild sported a lineup that include AHL stalwarts Andy Greene, Ryan Turek, Pavel Tenkrat, Roman Voloshenko, Stephen Gionta, Igor Volkov, and JF Jacques.

But AHL fans got a rare treat as the Houston spectators were treated to the likes of Henrik Zetterberg, Simon Gagne, Joe Sakic and Rusty Klesla

Stupid sim.

JETS KNOCK DOWN THRASHERS!!

JETS 3 THRASHERS 2!!

Pascal Lecclaire made his first start as a Jet and he came through with a great game. Leclaire turned aside 29 of 31 shots as the Jets rebounded with a 3-2 OT win over the Atlanta Thrashers.

The Thrashers opened the scoring mid way through the first period when Jay Pandolfo redirected a shot by Cullen between the legs of Leclaire. The Jets finally got on the score sheet late in the 1st period when Denis Arkhipov finished off a 2 on one. The Jets then took the lead just a minute six later when Andrew Cassels fired a high wrist shot over Bryzgalov.

4 minutes into the 2nd Peter Forsberg tied the game after a great individual effort. The game then remained without a goal until overtime. In overtime, Jan Hrdina sent Andrew Cassels in on a partial breakaway and Cassels ended the game with a quick wrist shot over the blocker of Bryzgalov. Cassels now has 9 goals on the season.

Brett McLean the Jets 4th leading scorer, found himself in the pressbox after a disappointing game on Monday, the Jets play t heir 4th game as in many nights tomorrow vs the Rangers.

Bolts Continue to Slide

The Tampa Bay Lightning are finding out that it is hard to keep up their early season heroics going winless in their last 5 games.

Goaltender Antero Niittymaki has been suffering through the flu and will not dress for tommorow's game vs the No-dekes.

Corey Crawford was called up from the AHL and will back up Yan Danis as the proverbial bench door opener will garner his first start of the season.

Can Yan Danis right the ship?

Wings 3 Flames 2

Flames are in a funk!

What to do, what to do???
GM Axmann is at a loss of what to do with this Flames team. Potential Scorers on everyline yet we continue to lose. Axmann took matters into his own hands and closed the door to the dressing room and went on a rant at the players.
One loud voice could be heard coming from the dressing room and it seemed that Axmann was in no mood for excuses.
After the meeting, Axmann emerged and advised reporters that this can no longer continue and if a turn around doesnt happen soon, more players will be shipped out of the Saddledome. Will a rebuild happen? Axmann advised that a full rebuild is highly unlikely and that moving players out that are not being productive is more likely the case.
All in all , things arent good in Flames land and GM Axmann sounds like he's ready to pull the plug.
Stay tuned

Blues flush the Oilers

(Ryan Whitney celebrates his 4th goal of the season and 3rd game winner)

In a matchup of two different teams, the St.Louis Blues faced off against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are always a top team in the standings, with a powerhouse offense and the best goaltender in the league. The Blues are an up and coming young team with the right mix of veterans. Alot of fans expected the Oilers to walk away with an easy win here.

The Blues got off to a quick 3-0 start by the 2nd period before the Oilers answered right back. Goals by Hemsky, Bradley and Whitney propelled the Blues out in front quickly, Lecavalier had the tally for the Oil.

In the 3rd period, Ovechkin scored his 7th of the season on the power play to make it 4-1. Shane Doan and Sid the Kid Crosby alternated goals to end it at 5-2. Hasek was strong in net facing 36 shots and putting 34 aside. Martin Brodeur didn't last very long as he faced 29 shots putting 24 aside as he was relieved by Ray Emery.

The Blues travel to Carolina to face a strong Hurricanes team and former Blues Chuck Kobasew who has been lighting the lamp for them. Look for Mason to be in net as Hasek gets the night off.

Goalie Statistics

Dominic Hasek (BLU), 34 saves out of 36 shots, W, 7-4-0
Martin Brodeur (OIL), 24 saves out of 29 shots, L, 6-7-0
Ray Emery (OIL), 1 saves out of 1 shots

Power Play Conversions
BLUES 1 for 8
OILERS 0 for 7

Game Stars
1 - Dominic Hasek (BLU)
2 - Ales Hemsky (BLU)
3 - Sidney Crosby (BLU)

Caps move into a Tie for 1st in the CPHL with win
  • While not pretty the two points on the board meant that the Capitals moved into a tie with the Atlanta Thrashers for top spot in the CPHL.
  • Backup Alexander Auld had a solid start in net and instilled a lot of confidence that he can step up when Dipietro is resting
  • Caps play their 4th game in 4 nights tonite against the Buffalo Sabres... it will be a strong test, but a win would go along way to solidify the Capitals as a powerhouse of the CPHL.
