Arghhh. After 15 years of driving I finally got pulled over for speeding 2 nites ago. Who doesn't go 100km on crowchild in the NW now??? eek.

I'm pretty much at the lowest end in terms of insurance premiums, so does 1 ticket affect my insurance? I've gotten multinova-ed a few times but never pulled over before.

That cop car was so stealth. It was tinted everywhere and it was a black car. Right after i pulled away he instantly nabbed someone else.

The two tickets I have had did not force my insurance up, though I'd bet it affected how much my insurance dropped each year. I doubt you have much to worry about from one ticket.

I got one last Tuesday too. I am going to strike a deal with the prosecuter because they always downgrade your ticket.

Well i'm totally guilty. I was just blasting my music and not paying attention. It was at 1030pm at nite. I don't think they will lower my ticket. $124.

I just love it when after they give you this fine, they smile and say "have a nice day"!

Oh well at least they didn't catch me not yielding to a pedestrian. A friend got a $280 ticket for that. That's like 35 dozen krispy kremes.

Well not always, but if you go to court to plead guilty and go to them before and just explain the situation, offer to pay the ticket, they will make it a Registered Owner (I think that is what it is called) and you won't have to worry about the insurance. That is my best advice from having talked to one of the big boys down there about the issue. Whatever you do don't go into the court room trying to macgyver in the court room, it will p*ss off the lawyer posing as a judge and you will just be put in a situation where you don't ask the questions right and you will have to pay the whole thing. Just be respectful, and offer to pay the full cost of the ticket (it will help) and they will knock it down.

Yep, just go talk to the prosecutor downtown, strike a deal, ask him to remove the demerits, and then plead guilty.

My sister insurance company found out she had some tickets somehow and raised her insurance, even though she didn't have demerits from them.

When I appeared infront of the Crown last month, I didn't even have to plead my case.

He said, "how about I drop all 3 demerits and you pay the full fine". I was more than happy to take the deal. I was also going 20 KM/H over. The painful part was the waiting in that tiny hallway with 50 other people, probably the longest hour ever.

It was also the first time I had been pulled over. I think your driving record also weighs in on the Crown's decision.

With the new grid that came out every conviction affects your insurance (not necessarily that much), It works on a point system. If you have any questions PM me, I would be happy to answer them...

Personally, I think the crown has it completely backwards. The fine should be negotiable, but the demerits absolute. If you are convicted, you lose those 2-3 demerits, period.

Thats right. Even if you go and talk to the prosecuter and get fine lowered or no demerits taken, you will still have a conviction against your record, and eventually, when the insurance company decides to run your record they see it, and increase rates, like cowboy said, based on a point system. So if you get a ticket, and renew your insurance, wait 10 months, and think your insurance isnt going up...............it is, just wait. Some companys are lazy and dont run people each year, some do it more often, depending on who they are dealing with.

Bottom line is, they're goin get ya!

You're complaining about being nailed because "everybody drives that fast there?" This is coming from the same person who claims to make the Calgary-Edmonton trip in 2 hours?

All I can say is, HA HA!

If so I saw you... that ghost car lit up like a christmas tree!

No. He caught me in between those 2 bridges at Shaganappi going east. I'm sure they are there every day now.

The funniest is at crowchild and sarcee during rush hour. People get impatient and drive on the shoulder to get to the turning light. The cops are there on foot and catch like 4-6 cars at a time. I wonder how much a ticket is for driving on the shoulder?

Ha...its happening in Calgary now, hey?

Out here in Vancouver, you see that - driving on the road shoulders - EVERYWHERE.

There's a line up of cars? Why wait - drive on the shoulder.
Not happy that someone in front of you is driving too slow? Well, what are you waiting for - pass them on the shoulder!
Need to get to that lane faster? Well, drive on that shoulder!

I tell you, drivers in Greater Vancouver....

What is with Memorial and about 14th street NW. They change the location of the 50 kmh signs every couple months, back and forth. Is this just so they can scam people. But I guess if you don't like the fine don't speed right it's all about safety.
Man that stretch is a huge multinova haven. I know at least 15-20 people who have gotten tix from there.

I wish the cops would be stationed in the construction zones more, where people go 80km or more in a 50km zone.

It was you then.. I just knew it was near Northland but now that I think harder I saw you just beside an overpass and there is no where to do that at Northland.

Tack one onto that number. I got my first multinova there several years ago. Only had one other after that, and it was on Deerfoot @ 64th NE (driving to an Uncles funeral of all things...)

I just sent an angry, slightly intoxicated email to the traffic planning department at the City of Calgary asking what the hell was going on there. If I get a response, I'll let you know. If I don't get a response, I'm calling someone in the media to look into it.

I fully believe it's designed simply to screw people over. It's been moved both ways so many times, there's no other explanation. I've never been caught by anything...well since I was 15 and learning anyhow...but it still angers me that they're doing this. :crap:
