Scientists expect Mt. St. Helens to explode imminently.

Here is a volcano cam updated every five minutes.

Brings back some memories of the eruption in '80. We got a lot of ash in Kalispell...which is a good 500 miles NW of St. Helens.

Hopefully this eruption won't be as destructive. The Toutle river went berserk last time.

Reminds me of a story my parents like to tell...they were camping on a flood plain in the East Kootenays (southwestern BC) and woke up and thought it had snowed. It turned out to be ash from St. Helens.

I'm going to Anti-Fata this as I'm bored too.

That topic was about a giant fly attack on St Helens... this is about the webcam. IMO, it doesn't classify as a Fata.

Does anyone have an image of a dancing anti-Fata?

As befitting our impatient society, I am quite put out the mountain hasn't exploded so far today.

I was in Spokane WA when it blew in '80 on a family holiday. About 4:00 in the afternoon that day, it looked like it was midnight. The ash completely blocked out the sun. Very, very spooky.

We were not allowed to leave the hotel that we were in for the day at least, and when we were allowed to go outside, we had to wear surgical masks. They said that the ash had potential to do damage to our lungs as it is like microscopic shards of glass inhaled into your body. We were stranded in Spokane for four days (I think) and when we were able to leave, during the drive home we had to change the air filter in the car about three times before we crossed the border back into Canada.
This definitley brings back some memories.

I remember that my family was moving from Medicine Hat to Cranbrook and happened to be driving that day too. I remember dad having to stop in Lethbridge, and "fix" the car there. We also had to stop at Coleman and Fernie to fix the car so that we could get to Cranbrook.

I lived along the east shore of Kootenay Lake back then, and I remember waiting alongside the highway for the school bus with my cousins. Both of them freaked out saying they felt something like an earthquake, but I didn't, and I wrote it off as the usual B.S. older cousins will pull on ya. IIRC correctly that is when she really blew, and there were stories of the Ainsworth Hot Springs going black at the time. I do remember getting the ash fall out though, and ash going as far north as Edmonton.

Ash went as far away as Northwestern Ontario for that matter. Screwed up the weather pretty good for the following year too. I was really young at the time, but I remember some of the talk at the time.

Yeah, I wasnt born yet but my parents said they woke up one morning and at first they thought it was snow but it was ash. Where we lived at that time was north central Manitoba.
