Default Moving to Brisbane Australia on Monday...

Hey folks,

I'm moving to Brisbane on Monday, where I'll be living for a few years, hopefully.

I was wondering if anyone else from the site happens to live there?

I was also hoping to get some tips from Aussie or Asia-based Flames fans on how the heck I can watch some games down there!?

Good luck with the move. My Uncle who lives in Calgary is originally from Brisbane. He loves it there obviously.

The head guy for the indie game development team I work for moved there when he got a job at a game development company. It didnt sound like he liked it too much there to begin with but his opinion might have changed by now.

Remember, everything rotates backwards there.

Ozzy Footy Rules, I recommend you get season tickets for that.

I work in Australia every so often, its my favorite place to go, allthough I have yet to be in Brisbane, I've been to Sydney and Melbourne many times though, I've also been to the Northwest coast of Ozzy land, not much there though however.

Enjoy the long flight, only terrible thing. The airplane on the world map never seems to move. LOL.

I haven't been to Brisbane yet, but I will be there just before Christmas so maybe we can meet up. It will probably be hot and sticky there when you arrive and will only get worse over the summer. As for the games, I highly recommend buying a SlingBox and hooking it up in Calgary. It enables you to watch all the Calgary tv channels remotely over the Internet. Aggravatingly, mine isn't working at the moment but when it is the games come in with just a tad less resolution than a regular tv but with no delay. It is pretty sweet actually. I have used it to watch hockey while in South Africa and Australia. Good luck watching hockey here otherwise.

Well the season is over (I was in Perth the night they won the grand-final... I don't remember a whole lot but I think I had a great time! ), but I guess if he is going to live there for awhile he could consider it. However, Queensland is all about the Rugby League. Soul, get tickets to that instead if you can. Personally I prefer AFL to NRL, but when in Rome...

Brisbane is a beautiful place! Lots to do in the city itself, especially if you like the outdoors, and it's a quick drive/bus to the Gold Coast and surrounding beaches! Weather is always nice from what I can tell, and it's not too expensive for living costs.

Only been there a few times, but I really enjoyed it.

As far as games go, get a slingbox

One of my friends moved from Calgary to Brisbane for school about a year ago and she described it as a "vacation that never ends..."

Judging by all the pictures I have seen, and her never ending Brisbane propaganda I am sure you will really enjoy it over there.

The no hockey thing does suck though. I think they are like 11 hrs ahead so games will be in the afternoon or something. Can you get a dish there that will show all the games?

Thats hilarious, When I was working on the west coast, I flew back through Melbourne to visit a friend from highschool, We went out clubing and we were walking back to his apartment, these girls heard us talking and there in there ozzy accent saying you guys are american, we were like no we're Canadian, they said same thing. We turned around and said o.k. kiwis, and they hate that there like we're not kiwis and of course we said same thing. Needless to say the conversation got alot better after that and didn't end there.
