Insomnia anyone?
Does anyone out there in CP land have problems sleeping on a regular basis (not just when the Flames are sucking )?
I am thinking about taking some drugs, but don't really know much about any of them... or the side-effects.
It's 1:30 and if I'm sleeping before 3... it's a good night.
Anybody have any advice?

I got serious insomnia. But its from a thyroid problem.
A couple years ago, I was sleeping about 15 hours a week, and at times, I would get about 3 hours of sleep in 4 days - and I still wouldn't be tired during the day. After 2 days of not sleeping, I would be too awake to fall asleep for the 3rd night and I wouldn't fall asleep until 6:00am (had to wake up at 7:00am).

Tape a Flames game and then watch it repeatedly.
Seriously though, I had insomnia once, and pills didn't help. Made me groggy in the morning and it still felt as if I took hours to fall asleep.
My best recommendation is to find out what is bothering you, and make a plan to tackle the issue. Once you have a plan of action, you'll sleep better. Drugs will only mask your pain! (I say the last part tongue in cheek but much insomnia is caused by worry of some sort.)

I used to get serious insomnia. Honestly, are you worried about stuff? I went through a rough patch earlier this year and just thinking about various things was keeping me up and screwing up my sleep. Stress could be a part of it. I never took any medications for my insomnia, just went away when my days got a little brighter.

That's crazy Phanuthier, but you're making me feel normal.
I get it in bouts usually, I'll go weeks where I barely sleep, and then it'll be normal for a while.
I just want to flippin' sleep, but I don't want to get addicted to sleep medication.

I got used to 2 hours of sleep a day a long time ago. Its stress related, and there's not much that you can do about it.
The good news is that you get more work done at night due to a lack of interuptions.

Are we distant relatives?
Same thing here.
Pro's: Got lots of work done. Never felt tired.
Con's: Probably because lack of sleep, but I was always cold, shivering. I was physically drained, I actively played soccer twice a week (still play soccer), played dodgeball and squash too, but there were some days I couldn't make it up 1 flight of stairs.

Hmmmmmm, I have a feeling that it's a little bit of that. I don't think it is anything physical, it just seems like my brain doesn't want to let me sleep. It happens maybe 3 times a year. Good to know you didn't take any meds and got over it - that's kind of my last resort.

I've watched/read the most boring things to try and fall asleep, personal favourite: 1989 Grey Cup game.

I have always had trouble sleeping, I fear I won't be able to change it.... ah well...
Anyways, something that has been suggested to me, if it's because you have something on your mind and that is what keeps you up, write down (or just say out loud) everything that is bothering you. Bills, friends, work, family, whatever. Sometimes that gets everything out and let's you relax so you can fall asleep.

Does it feel like your head is like a flywheel, it spins, and it can't slow down?
Thinking... thinking... thinking too much...?

I would advise against taking drugs to combat your problem. Had a friend who did that and she ended up getting addicted on the sleeping pills... couldn't sleep without them. As with most things though, effects vary from person to person.
I get it occasionally and I usually get out of the funk by not sleeping for a night. Yeah, it's extreme, but it works for me... so for example if I had insomnia for the past week, I'd stay up the entire night tonight... go to work and school tomorrow and by the time 9PM-10PM rolls around, I pass out.

Just got home from the office because I couldn't sleep.
It's common and stress is a big thing that causes it.
I go through it in spurts, I won't sleep well for like a week, then I'll sleep normal,

I get like that some times (probably stress related) or after long shifts in the field I can't sleep at all (like recently I went for about 5 days on about 6 hours of sleep, and lot of hours just laying awake).
I actually find a homeopathic remedy works for me. The brand is called CALMS (good for stress) but they also have a night time version that really puts me to sleep. Give it a try, what do you have to lose, you can find it in most suppliment stores
And as a benefit, homeopathic are not drugs in anyway, most homeopathics have so little in them they ingredients are below detectable limits

Yeah... a little actually... I'll just start thinking about the most random things for long periods of time.
Personally, I am not worrying or stressed more than "usual", but who knows...

That's what I've gone through pretty much every night forever. One thing that I've found that helps is to do something mindless (I play FIFA07 or something similar) and then think about that mindless thing as I am trying to fall asleep.
So, last night for example, I transfered a bunch of new players to my team before I went to bed and as I was lying there I only thank about where I was gonna put those players on my team, who would be the subs, what is my cap like, etc. That works sometimes, depends on my much stress Im under. Sometimes I just cant not stress out and worry.
Oh, and beer helps.

Generally I'm a pretty good sleeper - no problems. But for some reason Sunday nights always give me problems. Years ago it was stress related as I was always thinking about the upcoming work week, but I have very little work related stress now. I think I just have it in my head now when I head off to bed on Sunday nights that I'm going to have problems falling asleep....and then I'm hooped.
I find listening to late night talk radio helps for some reason though, I'll often fall asleep with the radio on.

Well, during school, obviously there's stress from studies, but its that I can't sleep from that. It'll be from the stupidest and non stressful things. Most nights (it was during the lockout) I was wondering who the Flames could get for Leopold.

Believe it or not... unless I drink till I pass out (which is alot... stage 4 or whatever of alcohol poisoning) I'm actually MORE awake as my mind is more active.
The mindless idea doesn't work for me either, cause after I'm done, I've been so mindless the past while that my brain goes nuts thinking.
