Where is the outrage? "Senior attacked by thugs"
This is another example of the discussion we had in the " Animal Cruelty in Didsbury" thread about the outcry of animal abuse but the silence of human abuse. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=31434
The thread was started the next day after it was reported. This attack on a senior was front page news on the sun and I think the hearld aswell.
http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/...95791-sun.html
Is it because it is a Sunday or is it because nobody really cares?
Just asking.

OMG, poor man. This attack was pointless, cruel, horrible, and I hope those punks get a long sentence! I wonder what their sentence will be....I hope they're put away for a while, seriously, that 15 year old punk is going to grow up and be a really bad violent criminal.
The unfortunate victim couldve easily died..what a vicious act.

There is outrage over a senior attacked by thugs, but there is none when a thug is attacked by seniors. Double standard?

I think this is Life Imitating "Art", again. The episode of CSI two weeks ago was about tourists in Vegas getting beaten up in the same way. It was called 'Fannysmacking', meaning the Fannypacks that tourists wear. I think these little s__ts were 'inspired' by that. Not that I blame the show.
A .44 to the forehead for each of them would be nice.

Bump.
In today's Herald, it is reported that three men have been arrested in connection with this attack. Three adults. Not teenagers. Apparently, despite earlier reports, teens weren't involved. In fact, the current theory says this was a planned deliberate attack in response to a feud over drug deals.

I'm suprised there isn't an organization that helps people like seniors, young children and women defend themselves. There should be. It's to a point now even in Canada where there are spots you shouldn't go (LRT stations at night for instance) and that's just garbage.
I'd like to see them given training on what potential situations could be dangerous and how to avoid them. Then give them lessons on the use of pepper spray and tasers etc.
Also the police should be conducting STING operations on a continual basis. Patrolling isn't good enough. They can take the officers off of traffic duty and have them do something more useful for a change.

Dosen't really matter if this incident isn't YET ANOTHER example of what is happening all too frequently. To me this is the direction the police force and society in general should be moving --- to curb the violence towards those who can't defend themselves. I heard one guy on the radio saying we shouldn't overeact as youth violence is actually down. WRONG!! There is no such thing as overeacting to violence -- Ramp it up and ramp it up till it's down to next to nothing.
In fact why not take a 5 year hiatus from peacekeeping abroad and put every single one of our troops into the police force and try and take a real chunk out of violent crime.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I'm not so outraged now that buddy didn't pay his drug tab off, and his family went on TV calling for blood.
I don't agree with what happened, but i'm not suprised.
And poor A-team gangstas in Airdrie got a bad rap.
At least animals who get beat up don't deal drugs.

Calgary and area has changed over the years and it's not for the better. I remember a tourist being impressed by Calgary and asking me if there was any area that wasn't safe. I said, I couldn't think of any. Now I don't feel real comfortable on any streets or transit in your city. Not that other cities are any better but the change in the last 15 yrs. is very noticeable.

Yeah, some tourist bus driver was in the news a few weeks back saying that he is ashamed of our city and all the problems, especially downtown and has to warn the tourists about it all.
City is getting huge, but the only thing I really hate about the city is still the drivers.
