THRASHERS LOSE 3-2 TO THE OILERS

(Edmonton - CP)

The Atlanta Thrashers finally played a game Wednesday afternoon in Edmonton against the Oilers after a week off from the ice. The Oilers got the best of the Thrashers in a 3-2 victory for the home team that saw the Thrashers drop their record to 8-2-0. Jeff Carter's 3rd period goal turned out to be the winner for the Oilers. Carter took a pass from Shane Doan and slapped one through the pads of Marc Denis right after the Thrashers had come back to the tie the score at 2 goals apiece. Mark Cullen had scored only 32 seconds earlier on a nice passing play with Scott Walker and Steve Sullivan to tie the game. Carter's goal deflated the Thrashers after they worked hard to tie it up.

Shane Doan of the Oilers was the star of the night potting 2 goals for the Oilers. Peter Forsberg had the other Thrasher goal.

"That short handed goal with 13 seconds to go in the 2nd really hurt us. We were going into the 3rd down a goal rather then tied on our PP. Cullen tied it up for us but then even more deflating then the shorty was the Carter goal less then a minute later. This will be a good learning experience for us. I don't think we played our best game tonight and didn't get enough shots on Brodeur. We have some things to work on, especially our powerplay, but the Oilers are a very good team over on the other side. Good thing we get right back at it tomorrow night vs Anaheim" - Thrashers GM Sutaria

Shots:

Thrashers 23
Oilers 28

Power Plays:

Thrashers 0 for 4
Oilers 0 for 2

3 Stars:

1st - Shane Doan (Oilers)
2nd - Peter Forsberg (Thrashers)
3rd - Sergei Samsonov (Oilers)

Goaltenders:

L - Marc Denis (Thrashers) 8-2-0, 25 saves
W - Martin Brodeur (Oilers) 6-4-0, 21 saves

Oil continue to collect points.

With 7 points in the last 4 games under the direction of Carlyle, the Oil are climbing up the standings. Tonight saw the Thrashers fly in to Rexall, in a highly anticipated game as we got to test our skills vs. one of the top teams from the Gretz Conference.

With the shots against only 23 in tonights contest, the D core seems to be getting the job done and letting Martin do his job. Once again Regehr and Hamrlik logged about 30 minutes each.

Offensively Shane Doan notched a couple in the win and added a team high 6 hits for the game. Jeff Carter found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Next up: A night off and then home to the Rangers.

Crap. Atleast it was close this time. SAVE THE DAMN PUCK YOU MORON!

Hossa, Chelios and Holik all left the game with minor injuries. Detroit giving up 7 powerplays to just two. Yea, good game ref. Cheechoo finally shows up and Peter Nedved continues to be the teams best player. Think he was given the title of biggest waist of skin at the beggining of the season. HAH! way to prove them wrong.

Penguins win on scoreboard; Lose two more players to injury

Penguins sniper Marain Hossa lies motionless on the
Ice after colliding hard into the Red Wings goal post.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won back to back games for the first time this season, but the winning streak will be hard to mantain as now 3 players will be out with minor injuries for tommorows game with the Buffalo Sabres. Marian Hossa had to leave the game early in the 3rd period after he collided hard with the Wings goal post while driving hard to the net. The Pens have already lost Koivu yesterday and Chris Chelios early in the 1st period when he blocked a hard point shot from Danny Markov. Both Hossa and Chelios are expected to join Koivu in the press box for tommorows game, but the Pens are hopeful that all 3 are ready to play the Thrashers on Saturday.

Avs gain first place in the Howe conference with the win. Huet improves to 4-0 and Gonchar gets two assists in his first game as an Avalanche.
Still, despite the fantastic start to the season, Maurice voices displeasure in the play of several key players.
Vasicek, Brylin and Zyuzin are said to be on the block as they have contributed very little to the Avs' success.

At least one Calgary Flame team can win a game Johnson ##### the bed again so Caron is starting tomorrow vs the Capitals. Arkhipov and Kopecky will also draw into the lineup, Novoseltsev, yes the Ivan Novoseltsev, will come out along with Don Maclean. I would say more about tonights game but really it was all about Brett McLean for the Jets, and I have had along day at the school with PTI's tonight followed by a great game of curling.

Fernandez Records 3rd Shuout of the Year

Wild 0 Panthers 7
Panthers: 8-2-0-0

After coming off a tough loss to the pesky Washington Capitals, the Florida Panthers rebounded Wednesday night with a huge win over the powerful Minnesota Wild.

Manny Fernandez was stellar stopping all 21 shots. This shutout is now his 3rd of the year and he is quickly seperating himself from the rest of the pack.

"I have an awsome bunch of guys in front of me" said Fernandez. "Without them I wouldn't be able to do what I do best."

Although Fernandez was the star of the night, another more subtle story raised it's head. Only days after being traded to Florida, Ray Whitney wasn't happy that he was going to be played on the3rd line. He was crap in his first game as a Panther and immediatly demanded a trade. Instead, GM Penney sat down with Whitney to go over how important he was to this team. Penney decided to give Whitney one more chance to prove himself and he didn't dissapoint.

Whitney was double shifter on the PP and once again played on the 3rd line. He had 2 assists and was a +2 on the night, partially erasing the horrible -4 he was the night before.

The Panthers look to continue their winning ways when they play the St. Louis Blues tongiht.

Flames WIN Flames WIN!!!

Flames 4 Jets 2

Jets locker room looked a little glum last night after the Jets were defeated by your Calgary Flames 4-2.
Flames needed the win as GM Axmann was talking some serious trade yesterday and this win might have put things on the back burner for a bit.

Zidlicky, the Flames stalworth defencman, came through with 2 goals and an assist. The ever popular Darcy Tucker had a goal and an assist.
Kipper looked his normal strong self, but we feel that we may need to find him some more help in the scoring department.

GM Axmann said he wont rest on the result of this game and may look at making a couple of changes in the lineup.

Goalie Statistics

Brent Johnson (JET), 29 saves out of 33 shots, L, 4-3-1
Miikka Kiprusoff (FLA), 20 saves out of 22 shots, W, 4-5-0

Power Play Conversions

JETS 1 for 5
FLAMES 2 for 5

Game Stars
1 - Marek Zidlicky (FLA)
2 - Darcy Tucker (FLA)
3 - Brett McLean (JET)

Flames forgot to send in their lines and express their apologies to the powers that be. wont happen again, boys.
