The Hip - World Container
I picked this up last week (being the Hip fan that I am).
Wondering if anyone else has had a listen and what they think.
For me the jury is still out - not sure if I like it or not. But that might be a good sign - some of the albums I like the most had to grow on me. Probably would sound better live.

I like it better than their last 3 albums. The only thing I don't like is some of it seems to be over produced. Some restraint on the production end might have suited some songs nicely. But overall, I was pleasantly suprised by this album. The Hip managed to sound more fresh and exciting again with this record, rather than continuing to rehash the same old sound everyone expects from them. There is still vintage Hip on this record, but a few songs that you wouldn't expect either. "the Kids Don't Get It" might be my favourite song of theirs for a long while.

Can you hear some of it online? Maybe their website? Just maybe the 1st single; just curious as I haven't heard any of it yet...
Cheers.

I heard 3 songs live in Washington in the spring this year. the songs I heard were actually really good. I don't usually like their new stuff especially at first crack. I got Saturday tickets to see them at Mac Hall and I will probably pick up the CD today.

At least before the album was released, you could hear the entire thing on their website, as well as four songs on their official Myspace page.
I like it so far. I haven't been a fan of the last few albums until I listened to them a number of times, but this one has grown on me fairly quickly.

If you goto their website, and click "song of the day" you can listen...just skip until you get to one of the new songs.
Just finished listening to "yer not the ocean"; and now on is "the lonely end of the rink"
The first one I liked, although I didn't like how it started off at first.
Cheers.
"In View" is a good song....

I bought it on Thursday and listened to it at work all day on Friday. I was coming and going from my desk all day long, so i didn't hear every song every time it played.
I have really enjoyed it so far. The only two Hip CDs that I didn't really like (well I liked but they just weren't as good as the rest) was Trouble At The Henhouse and Music @ Work. In Between Evolution and In Violet Light were good, just not as memorable as the first 4 CDs. I really loved Phantom Power, despite quite a few people not liking it.
I think World Container can shape up to be one of my favorite Hip CDs. I think I'll listen to it right now.

It took me a long time to enjoy Trouble At The Henhouse, but it's right up there amongst my favorites, right alongside the sentimental favorite Up To Here.

Fully Completely, Day for Night, and Henhouse are 3 of my all time favourite records. The Hip were at their peak during those years. Not to discount everything else they've done, a lot of which is great, but those 3 were the cream of the crop.

Henhouse was amazing IMO. After that I wasn't a huge fan of the music. Music @ work was a great song but a bad album. I bought the album today and I actually really like it. Bob Rock produced it and it shows. It is heavier and sounds "overproduced" as some have put it. I tend to disagree with the overproduced thing though. When you bring in a veteran like Bob Rock it is going to sound the way it needs to. This album is their heaviest but I think it will rank among the best.

Road Apples remains my favourite. Henhouse is great also though; I remember lining up at midnight the day it went on sale to get one of the first copies. I think I was almost 16 at the time, and I remember being drunk. O those halcyon days of youth!

Thanks for letting me know it is out! I'll bet my spam blocker got that email.
I really enjoyed In Between Evolution and In Violet Light grew on me. The only album I really dislike is My Music at Work.
My favorites are Road Apples and Trouble at the Henhouse.

Music at Work is actually a decent album. The only problem I have with it is it's about three songs too long. Take out Wild Mountain Honey, The Bear and maybe one other track (choose from The Bast... or Train Overnight) and it's pretty solid but still takes some getting used to.

I have to agree with Dis that Music @ Work is my least favourite. The other recent ones have grown on me a lot more. Phantom Power has grown on me so much over the past few years that I now tend to see it more as the last of the old stuff instead of the first of the new.

I like the recent records better than the "classic" Hip albums (except Music @ Work, which I do not own yet). Seems to me they are better musicians and songwriters than they were in the beginning. They are working with some good producers (Steve Berlin, Bob Rock). Maybe the old songs are played too much to death on radio for my liking.
My favorites would have to be Day for Night, Phantom Power, In Between Evolution.

After going back and listening to all their CDs over the past couple of days, I'd have to say that my top 3 favorites are Fully Completely, Phantom Power and In Violet Light.
I still enjoyed Music @ Work and Trouble at the Henhouse, but they just are still my least favorite. Looks like I'm in the minority as far as "TATH" goes... maybe I listened to it too much when it first came out, b/c when it was first released I did continually listen to for a substantial amount of time.
