Default Another school shooting

http://edition.cnn.com/

Bit of a twist this time. It's a one-room schoolhouse in Amish country.

Does the added attention school shootings get seem to increase them?

I mean, a murder now gets local coverage and that is it. A school shooing gets North American coverage. Would a crazy person bent on killing decide on a school now for the added publicity?

2 schools locked down in Las Vegas when a non-student with a gun runs away from campus police.

Just sick. You'd think a school would be a safe place but I guess that's in the past now.

Regarding whether the publicity kick would be the reason to attack a school...I'm not sure. You'd think if someone is that sick to kill an innocent person they probably don't care where or who they kill. But if it's publicity their seeking it probably increases the risks for a shooting at the school.

It's looking like these last two (this one in Pennsylvania and the one in Colorado) are no longer students shooting it up...they're adults...that's just disturbing.

Horrible.

Such a beautiful and peaceful community as anyone who has ever been to Lancaster County can attest.

Bobblehead...when Columbine happened I argued that the extended coverage would actually make things worse. I don't know that to be true, but it sure seems like it.

Some of these things though are very different than Columbine. The one in Colorado was a pervert looking for young girls in a concentrated area. The on in Wisconsin last week seemed to be a vendetta against one particular administrator. It's tough to classify all of these as related to Columbine. You can't not cover the story either, but I think they went way overboard.

Its something that probably won't be understood for another 20 years when a larger sample of school shootings can be studied.

Sickening that they are so prevalent that we need to study them, isn't it?

I'm just watching the story right now on CNN. The headline reads:

Police: Suspect told wife he was seeking revenge for event that happened 20 years ago.

Apparently, he called his wife an hour before the shootings and told her that statement. Also, the suspect was in the school 45 minutes before police were called. What a coward.

EDIT: All the victims were female in these shootings. The suspect apparently let all the males leave the school before lining up the females at the blackboard and shooting and killing three ages 6-13.

Coroner's office says 6 dead, police so far has said 3.
