I organized a shinny hockey league a while ago and it was impossible to find any good times at all. Most of them are taken by minor hockey, the rest are booked through leagues or other shinny that have been booking for years so they get priority times.
I was reading that the Calgary minor hockey association thinks that Calgary is short about 12 rinks in the city. That makes ice time a valuable commodity.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but that has been my experience.

I used to work at COP...they definately have plans to build some rinks (2 NHL size and 2 Int'l). Realisticaly, they wont start construction til '11 and be finished by '13, however I'm not up to date on their progess plans anymore. COP is a huge dreamer with a limited budget...and it all depends where they put the money they have.

Not much left in the city. Our men's league team had to move out of town for our games..

Make sure you let them know if you are able to be flexible. For example our rink gives us a break because we take time off when they want to host a tournament, or if one of their "home teams" makes the playoffs.

Try Australia. There might be some available ice out there.
Seriously, it's just unbelievable how hard it is to get ice time, let alone cheap ice time at a reasonable hour.
I'm gonna have to take a nap today before I head out to my $520 per season, non contact league. We play at 11:30 tonight.

Max Bell has some day ice, its really cheap to, actually, come to think of it, alot of rinks have day ice. I think Max Bell has day ice for like $45 or something, you should check it out though, but I know after schools get our your never going to find any ice.

Even in my league, teams that have been playing at a rink for 10+ years are having their ice times screwed with. They either lose it all together or keep getting pushed back by 15-30 minutes.
