Golf Legend Byron Nelson dies aged 94

I had the privilege of meeting him last year when I volunteered for the Byron Nelson Classic in Dallas. A tremendous honour, I happened to be in the right place at the right time, got a photo as well. It was the 50th anniversary of the Greatest Year in Golf. He won 11 straight tournaments in 1945. Had a great conversation later on with his wife Peggy. He loved Alberta and came to the Oilman's invitational every year until he was no longer able to golf.

His tournament raises more money for charity than any other stop on the PGA tour. He will be missed, but his legacy will no doubt live on.

Habernac, that's a fantastic story. Every year I've seen his tournament, I have been amazed at his eloquence about the game at his advanced age. I'm not surprised at his passing at 94, but part of me is just because of how lucid his thoughts were when interviewed.

I work at a sports wholesaler and directly across from my desk is a picture of "The Starters": Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson. They've all signed it, and now the final one has passed on. I'd love to buy it myself, but it's over $2500.
