Where's all the Hurricanes? Blame Africa!
So it's becoming more and more clear that meteorologists have absolutely no idea how to predict hurricanes...how intense...how many, etc. Just found a news story that takes their clueless..ness to another level. Apparently African wind storms have an effect on the number of hurricanes that pop up in the atlantic. Poor CNN, their ratings must be nose diving with the lack of destruction this year.

Yeah,
last year all we heard was that this year was gonna be just as bad, and so far not much has really happened. So much for predicting the weather.

I've been so glad that there have been no huricanes this year, due to the fact that i've been working in the gulf all year.

Not that I am saying that this is proof global warming does not exist, merely that the validity of the propaganda being spread by such people (and boy did they lay it on thick) has been completely and utterly destroyed by this years lack of a hurricane season.

Yeah, Blame Africa. However, I'm going to cuba at the end of this month so I'm crossing my fingers that everything will be calm...

What was the motive of these sinister and uneducated individuals? Where was their payoff? Were they heavily invested in anti-Hurricane technology?

weather, and espeically hurricanes is so complex with hundreds of mutually independant variables, short and long term cycles and countless sources of information. Good meteoroligists have to be expert statisticians, just to deal with their information.
The moral of the story is that predicting weather is really, really hard.

Funding to research the threats precieved to be caused by global warming. How do you think scientists make a living? They have to sell governments and/or industry that their research will be of some value.

The reality is that nobody has any clue to what extent global warming has to do with our emissions and what is simply natural cycles.
We had a warm winter last year and everyone said that the end is near and it's cause of emmissions. Well go tell northern Europe and russia that. They had their coldest winter in a decade.

It's the greatest conspiracy ever pulled off. Billions of people duped into believing in something (of which there are mountains of evidence, coincidentally) that doesn't exist, so some scientists can get their funding.

Couldn't agree more. I cant believe how easily people have been convinced of the whole thing. There is evidence showing that the world is warming up, but there's just as much evidence if you look at history showing that the planet we live on goes through cooling and warming trends. Alberta used to be under water for crying out loud...did the dinosaurs cause global warming too???

Now, why dont you try to actually address the point, eh?
If global warming is a major factor for violence of the 2005 hurricane season, what happened this year?

Right, but again, who's benefiting? Where's the payoff for these enviro-nuts?

I thought the topic was global warming? What diversion? I actually never said that hurricanes were supposed to be greater today. I certainly don't think this is evidence that global warming doesn't exist though. You know, it dropped a few degrees in Calgary over the past few weeks, and I also don't believe that that means the earth is going through global cooling. This stuff doesn't happen in a few weeks/years.
I don't think the pro-Kyoto crowd was resting their hopes and dreams on this hurricane season. Do you? Has the anti-Kyoto crowd acheived a KO because of the lack of hurricanes?

When I was growing up in the seventies it was believed we were approaching the next Ice age. People made careers studying this advancing Ice age. Now we see global warming as the threat of the day.
After Al Gore stood up in his movie and said to brace for the worse hurricane season we've ever seen some reporter tried interviewing the leading hurricane expert in the United States and I believe the world. He developed the computer models that predict when and where hurricanes will hit land fall. He said he knew nothing about the relationship between global warming and hurricanes. He also didn't think there was a marked increase of hurricane activity. More of them happened to hit land in the last couple years and more of the land is occupied by people and their stuff today than say fifty years ago.

Exactly, someone needs to tell me what the dinosaurs did to create the ice age.
