Default Ryder Cup - SPOILER WARNING

So, the Ryder Cup starts right away and Europe has won 4 out of the last 5 or something like that. But the US has a red hot Tiger. Who do you think will win.

Also, a question, I've never quite figured out how the match play scoring works, although I don't watch it very often, I would like to know. Thanks.

Match Play-you score hole by hole, rather than shot by shot. For example, if on the first hole, you score a 3 and I score a 4, you are 1 up, because you won the hole. It doesn't matter if I took a 4 or an 8, you won the hole and go 1 up. When you see a score like Team A won 3&2, it means that Team A were 3 up with 2 holes to play, so Team B could not catch them as there were not enough holes left.

A better definition can be found at:

It appears that Furyk carried Tiger this morning to their opening match win over Monty and Padraig. I think it'll be close but I'm hoping the American rookies step up to take the Cup back for the US.

I think Europe will take it again this year, way more experience. Too many rookies with the US. Tiger's hot, but he can't carry the entire team.

This is my favorite golf tournament to watch. Glad I got the day off so I can watch this in HD!

Edge of chaos

This Ryder Cup is on the verge of getting real ugly

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...cup/index.html

The Irish Times kicked off the Ugly American campaign early in the week with a provocative story -- written, interestingly, by an American, Bruce Selcraig -- that said, among other things, "many Euros and other international players are put off by the overwhelming number of American PGA Tour players who identify themselves as George Bush-loving Republicans who support the U.S. occupation of Iraq."

The story went on to add,"... the American pro golf world, which has been heavily influenced by corporate America and Republican politics for at least 30 years, now has such a strong element of Christian fundamentalists that the entire Ryder Cup leadership -- Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin and Loren Roberts -- are all self-professed born-again Christians

The American Ryder Cup wives have also been caught in the crossfire. The Dubliner magazine created a huge stir on Wednesday, printing nude photos of a buxom blonde that the paper claimed was Tiger Woods' wife Elin, noting that she "can be found in a variety of sweaty poses on porn sites across the Web." An accompanying story had some mean-spirited lines about various other U.S. wives.

Current score:

USA 3 EUROPE 5

You should have put a spoiler warning Troutman. The Ryder Cup is still airing here right now, it's not on live.

Amazing Ace to win the one match. Europe is doing well.

Most likely because of:

a)The completely biased NBC cheerleading, and general media spin we get (it doesn't matter/excuses are made when the US loses, or, the over the top, "greatest moments in golf" when they win) here in Canada.

and

b) The completely classless celebrations from the US 7 years ago when they came back from so far down,

I cannot get enough of watching (supposed unknown) European golfers taking it to the Americans in the Ryder Cup day after day.

I'll be honest, I only watch the PGA week to week if Woods is in contention. In this, I could care less how he does, although , thankfully, he carries himself with class throughout the whole event, not be that guy (there always is one) that makes some silly patrioitc comment or acts like a pompus jerk to try and pump the team up.

Most of it is the fault of the air of US superiority that NBC seems to play up in their coverage.

And how awseome is Darren Clarke? Unreal that he could even swing a club this soon after his wife's death from breast Cancer.

The U.S. team is going to take a lot of flak from the media back home, but I think the outcome had more to do with the Europeans playing unbelievable golf rather than the U.S. stinking up the joint. I actually think the U.S. played alright, but it seemed like every time the Euros had a 15-20 foot putt to win the hole it went in. Every time.

I'm also really happy for Darren Clarke. Going undefeated like he did under those circumstances is incredible.
