Detroit Ready For Preseason
The Detroit Red Wings lost in the third round of the playoffs last season to the Minnesota Wild. We were one game away from going to the finals. Knocking off the two top seeds in the Howe (oilers, Predators) what is expected from this group of players this season? With not allot of action happening in Motown during the off season the team looks to improve on there 7th place finish in the standings. The biggest change made in the off season is probably moving last season's playoff scoring leader Todd Bertuzzi. The team remains somewhat in tact and management would have to think without much of a farm system this is going to be there last kick at the cat before a major overhaul.
New faces to the club this season are Peter Nedved, Michael Nylander, Chris Therian and Danny Markov. The only real question mark that remains for the Wings is in net. With Mike Dunham penciled in as the starter coach Lou Lamoriello has had a few sleepless nights wondering where in the NHL Dunham could end up. With Only Johan Hedberg in the system and no real prospect on the farm we will all keep our fingers crossed.
Detroit's opening day roster looks to be pretty good in depth but lacking some scoring threats. After Simon Gagne and Marco Sturm there isn't allot to choose from. The teams defense has improved somewhat after acquiring Danny Markov but still doesn't have that impact player.
