I had a similiar experience ten years ago, when thanks to the internet, I tracked down my father's two brothers.

There is a show on Russian TV every Monday, the title of which translates as "Wait for me", that is all about finding lost family members or loved ones. My wife never misses it and bawls her eyes out throughout the whole show.

It's amazing, they seem to routinely reunite family members separated during WWII, similar to this yahoo story.
