Word. I have a GC 4.0l and went to look at the new Jeep Compass in the hopes of getting a more fuel efficient vehicle for city driving.
Blech BTW. Although it may grow on me.

My dad has a Jepp Commander with the small engine (3.7 V6) and it is enough of a hog on gas to make me tell anyone to stay away from it.

I don't know exactly what it gets, I'll check tomorrow on the on-board computer and report back.

check Consumer Reports before buying any kind of Jeep, unless you're only planning on keeping it for a couple years. some Jeep models are notoriously unrealiable.

I don't know about the gas mileage but I test drove one at Spruce Meadows on the weekend. Pretty sweet ride. Looks great, awesome interior, mean looking exterior and handled like a dream. However if you are looking at doing your part for the environment or looking to save a few bucks in gas mileage I guess it may not be not be for you. If you don't care about gas consumption. I loved it.

Gas mileage isn't my main concern. I farm, so I need something that can be considered a farm vehicle so I can use farm fuel. I also have a GMC truck, so I know all about poor gas mileage. If anyone has any other suggestions for good suvs, just let me know.

How much cheaper is "purple" than regular gas these days?

yeah I'd like to know that as well. IIRC, Dion Phaneuf drives one as well. Don't know a whole lot about them, but Jeeps have historically been a relatively safe buy.

I rented one a couple of months ago. Handled pretty good on the 401 and I liked it better then any other Chrysler product I've tried in the past (although I've only driven their sedans in the past and hated them). I was pretty impressed with it.
If it wasn't for fuel economy and potential quality concerns with Chrysler products, I'd get one at the right price.

I've had my Liberty for 14 months now and love everything about except for the gas it consumes. Hasent given me any problems.

On my August bill I was paying 92.7 cents. At that time fuel at the regular pump was about $1.12. Farm fuel is usually about 15-20 cents cheaper than regular fuel at the pump, but it does vary. I'm not sure what is is now that fuel prices have dropped again.

Never buy american ... cheaper upfront, but more expensive in the long run because of resale and reliability.
I had a liberty once, about 31k new I believe, but after owning for two years I resold it at a low price and ended up paying about 6000 per year, I now have a Acura TL and although I paid 43k up front, I'll sell it in about 6 months and it will have actually cost 4500 / year.

I've never considered a vehicle as an investment.
