I would have to say one of my favourite 80's bands, which I only really discovered about a year or so ago, is Honeymoon Suite. This is a good Canadian 80's group with a ton of good songs and hits. Some of their songs include:
Feel it Again, New Girl Now, All Along, Bad Attitude, Wave Babies, If I Could Fly High etc. I find alot of their stuff is played fairly frequently on CJAY, JACK, Eagle and other stations.
Their videos, use of keyboard and hairstyles were the emblem of what the 80's are. Great stuff!

My top 3 favourites from the 80s are:
1) Kate Bush
2) The Cure
3) New Order
I'm not sure if I should count the Jesus and Mary Chain. They started in the mid-80s, but were most popular in the 90s.

The Cure and the Jam are my favorites, and I guess I'd say Blondie if I had to pick a third. I was too young to appreciate them at the time, but those are my two favorites, now that I'm older.

I always liked:
The Police
Grapes of Wrath
54-40 (early stuff)
REM (early stuff, not the 90's whiny stuff)

I love the 1980's when it comes to music. If there's one thing I like about my entertainment it's that I must be engrossed by it. Escapism is also good. 80's music usually fits the bill.
Some of my favourite 80's music (in no particular order):
Huey Lewis & The News - a definite favourite for singing along to in a 1980's do-wop style
The Police - Too bad Sting had to be such a control freak and alienate the other band members causing them to hate him
U2 - The best thing about their music in the 1980's was how engaging it was to listen to as complete albums. So textural and nearly symphonic at times. It's all about the arrangement.
Van Halen - To me, nothing says guitar wank better than Van Halen.
Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else right now... the 90's killed my memories of the 80's...

Still like "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. I was watching the video on an old tape the other day.
Isn't that the video that really launched MTV's success?
I wonder if Elvis Presley movies were the first music video's of a younger generation.

One of my favorites from the 1980s would have to be Big Country (who are only known by most for the hit "In A Big Country"). I compare them to their contemporaries U2 who made it big world-wide, while Big Country was mainly a success only in Europe.
With their ringing, bagpipe-like guitars and the anthemic songs of frontman Stuart Adamson, Scotland's Big Country emerged as one of the most distinctive and promising new rock bands of the early '80s, scoring a major hit with their debut album, The Crossing; (allmusic.com)

What are you talking about??!?! Mainstream music is worse than ever!! MTV has doomed it to always be this way?
Or are you a fan of Good Charlotte and Nick/Jessica?

I would say 80's music is one of my favourites to listen too. Some other great 80's bands that I really like: Def Lep, Van Halen, Duran Duran, Police, Tears for Fears, Trooper, Poison, Depech Mode (People are People only good one), Lover Boy, Aldo Nova, Dire Straights (My MTV first music video on MTV) the list goes on.....so many classics.

Funny how London Calling was released in 1979. I guess they are talking about US releases.
London Calling is probably one of the best albums of all time, amazing...just amazing.

I still enjoy Tears for Fears, Missing Persons, Blondie, Go Go's and probably most of all The Cure(to name a few). I hope New Wave music makes a comeback, minus the crappy clothes, makeup and hair.
